VCU takes care of Fordham 75-58

NEW YORK (AP) Briante Weber and Treveon Graham scored 14 points apiece and Virginia Commonwealth took care of Fordham 75-58 on Sunday.

All five VCU starters had eight or more points. Weber and Graham both had seven rebounds and Weber added six steals.

VCU (11-3, 1-0 Atlantic 10) raced out to a 13-5 lead early behind 3-pointers by Melvin Johnson, Terry Larrier and Doug Brooks. VCU led by as much as 15 before Fordham made an 8-0 run and cut its deficit to 37-30 at intermission.

A 7-0 spurt by Fordham out of the break made it a one-point game just over 3 minutes into the second half, but VCU responded with a 14-0 run of its own to take control of the game and Fordham couldn't answer.

Eric Paschall led Fordham (5-7, 0-1) with 15 points and Mandell Thomas added 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.
