UMKC 74, SE Missouri 69
Reggie Chamberlain scored 23 points, including five 3-pointers, to help UMKC hold off Southeast Missouri State for a 74-69 win Saturday.
Thomas Staton added 10 points for the Kangaroos (6-5), who saw their 16-point second-half lead whittled to two, 58-56, after two Marland Smith free throws with 4:47 to play. But 3-pointers by Kirk Korver and Chamberlain made it an eight-point game again.
The Redhawks (4-6) got within three points twice in the final minute, but a Nate Rogers layup and two free throws apiece by Trinity Hall and Chamberlain sealed the win.
Smith and Leon Powell led Southeast Missouri State with 21 points each. Powell, who had 26 points and 19 rebounds in a loss Monday to Central Arkansas, grabbed 10 rebounds for another double-double.
UMKC was 13 of 21 (62 percent) from 3-point range, but just 11 of 28 (39 percent) from inside the arc.
