Umipig, Seattle use big second half to beat UTPA 70-47

SEATTLE (AP) Isiah Umipig scored 17 of his 28 points in the second half on Thursday night to lead Seattle past Texas-Pan American 70-47.

Umipig made 10 of 15 field-goal attempts, including 7 of 11 from 3-point range.

The teams combined to shoot 40 percent (20 of 50) in the first half, and Seattle (8-8, 1-1 WAC) led 28-23 at halftime.

The Redhawks opened the second half with a 38-9 run during which they made 14 of 17 field-goal attempts, including 9 of 11 3-pointers. Umipig hit five 3s and scored 17 and Jarell Flora had four 3s and 14 points during that stretch, while UTPA (7-11, 1-1) was just 4-of-14 shooting and committed six turnovers. The Redhawks built a 66-32 lead with under 7 minutes remaining.

Janari Joesaar led the Broncos with 14 points.

Flora finished with 16 points and Jack Crook 12. William Powell had eight points, nine rebounds and five assists.
