SC's Ellington giving up football
South Carolina's two-sport standout Bruce Ellington is giving up football to concentrate on basketball.
Ellington said Monday that basketball was his first love and he wanted to focus on that sport full time.
The sophomore just completed an exhausting six months where he went from football practice last summer, to the gridiron season and then from the field to the court. He joined the basketball team once the football team completed its 11-win campaign.
The basketball team went 10-21, its season ending last week with a first-round loss to Alabama at the Southeastern Conference tournament.
Ellington earned Freshman All-SEC honors in football, gaining 707 all-purpose yards. He was South Carolina's second-leading scorer in basketball, averaging 11 points in 24 games.
