Marcus James scored 18 points and pulled down a career high 17 rebounds to lead Sam Houston State to a 66-54 victory Thursday over Paul Quinn.

Konner Tucker, who led Sam Houston State in scoring coming into the game, and Darius Gatlin added 13 points apiece for the Bearkats (3-5), and Michael Holyfield scored 10.

Reginald Hill had 22 points and was 6 of 8 on 3-pointers for the Tigers, an NAIA team. Darrell Augustine added 10 points.

The Bearkats were 24 of 47 (51 percent) from the field and dominated the boards, outrebounding Paul Quinn 39-24 and outscoring the Tigers 17-7 on second-chance points.

Sam Houston State never trailed in the game, but Paul Quinn pulled within one, 35-34, on an Augustine 3-pointer 1:20 into the second half. The Bearkats responded with a 21-8 run over the next 12 minutes to put the game out of reach.
