Radford University men's basketball coach Brad Greenberg has resigned.

The university announced Greenberg's resignation on its website Thursday evening and said a national search for a replacement will begin immediately.

Radford Assistant Athletic Director Joey Beeler said Thursday night he could not comment on Greenberg's resignation.

The 57-year-old Greenberg was suspended for four games in February for NCAA violations tied to impermissible team travel and associated extra benefits for an ineligible player.

In four seasons, Greenberg compiled an overall record of 55-68 and a Big South conference record of 35-33. The Highlanders were 5-24 overall and 2-16 in the league last season.

Athletics Robert Lineburg issued a statement Thursday saying he's confident the opening will draw a lot of interest. He said ''we will be extremely thorough and hire the right person to lead our student-athletes in the classroom, in the community and on the basketball court.''
