Shawn Atupem scored 16 points as Mount St. Mary's (Md.) defeated Quinnipiac 61-56 on Saturday night.

Jean Cajou added 11 points for the Mountaineers (7-14, 4-6 Northeast Conference), who have won two straight for the first time since November.

After a 2-2 tie in the opening moments, the Mountaineers took the lead for the rest of the game. A 7-2 run in the second half gave them their largest lead of the game at 48-37 with 7:55 remaining.

Justin Rutty finished with 18 points and 15 rebounds for the Bobcats (14-7, 8-2), who saw an eight-game win streak snapped. Deontay Twyman added 13 points.

The Mountaineers shot only 52 percent from the foul line (13-for-25) and was outrebounded 43-33. But they shot 44.9 percent from the field (22-for-49), compared to 32.8 percent for Quinnipiac (19-for-58).
