Kyle Weems scored 22 points, hitting a career milestone and leading Missouri State to a 78-55 win Saturday over Kennesaw State in the opening round of the Las Vegas Classic.

Weems, a senior, came into the game needing 19 points for 1,500 in his career. His 19th point came on the first of two free throws with 7:15 left in the game.

Weems added eight rebounds for the Bears (6-3), who went on a 17-0 run midway through the first half and never led by less than eight points after that.

Caleb Patterson had 12 points and seven rebounds for Missouri State, which outrebounded Kennesaw State 36-22 and outscored the Owls 38-20 in the paint.

Markeith Cummings led Kennesaw State (2-7) with 24 points and seven rebounds, and Spencer Dixon had 17 points, including three 3-pointers.

Missouri State also won the only previous meeting between the schools, in 2005.
