Kendrick Washington's layup with 12 seconds remaining gave Houston a 75-73 victory over Sam Houston State Tuesday night.
Neither team led by more than six points and the game was tied 14 times, the last with 41 seconds left when Gilberto Clavell made two free throws for Sam Houston State. But Washington scored his only points of the second half for the Cougars (7-5).
Sam Houston State (6-4) did not get another shot off.
Adam Brown had 21 points to lead Houston. Maurice McNeil scored 18, Darian Thibodeaux 12 and Washington finished with 10. Zamal Nixon had nine points and 11 assists for the Cougars, who shot 53 percent from the field.

Clavell led the Bearkats with 25 points. Josten Crow scored 20 points, 17 in the second half.
