Grambling St. tops Prairie View A&M in final seconds, 66-63

GRAMBLING, La. (AP) Deonte Hearns scored 21 points and hit a field goal with 8.3 seconds left to give Grambling State the lead for good in a 66-63 win over Prairie View A&M on Saturday night.

The win was the Tigers' first over Prairie View since 2005.

The Panthers led at intermission, 34-29, and padded it as the second half progressed - leading by as many as 11.

The Tigers battled back, pulling even at 55-55 with 5:06 remaining.

Prairie View grabbed a one-point lead with 17.9 seconds left only to see it slip away on Hearns' field goal. Nigel Ribeiro converted two free throws to set the final margin.

Ribeiro finished with 14 points and Ervin Mitchell added 11 more for Grambling State (6-11, 3-2 Southwestern Athletic Conference).

Tevin Bellinger came off the bench to score 23 points and lead the Prairie View A&M (1-15, 1-3) offense. Zachary Hamilton added 11 points.
