Gardner's 3 lifts American past Lehigh, 62-59

WASHINGTON, D.C. (AP) Pee Wee Gardner stroked in a 3-pointer with 0.8 seconds left to lift American University past Lehigh in a Patriot League game Wednesday night.

Austin Price hit the second of two free throws with 1:39 left to give American the lead, 59-57, but Tim Kempton knocked down a jumper with 9 seconds left to tie it at 59.

Jesse Reed scored 27 points, 16 in the first half, to lead the Eagles (10-7, 3-2 Patriot), with Charlie Jones adding another 11 points. Gardner finished with eight points by hitting 2 of 4 from behind the arc.

Kempton, the reigning Patriot League Rookie of the Year, finished with 24 points and 13 rebounds to lead Lehigh (7-9, 1-4). Price added another 13 points.

On Saturday, Gardner scored five points in the final 13 seconds of regulation to force overtime in the Eagles' 71-69 double overtime win over Colgate.
