Evansville sank five free throws in the final minute to turn a one-point deficit into a a 77-73 victory over UTSA on Wednesday night.

The free throws were indicative of the outcome, as Evansville hit 24 of 33 from the line to just 10 of 15 for UTSA.

Denver Holmes and Colt Ryan scored 15 points apiece for the Purple Aces (2-0).

Jeromie Hill scored 27 for the Roadrunners (1-1), including 4 of 5 on 3-pointers, and grabbed 12 rebounds. Devin Gibson added 21 points.

Texas-San Antonio outrebounded the Purple Aces 36-33.

UTSA led 73-72 when T.J. Williams hit a jumper with 1:08 left. But the Roadrunners then committed three fouls, missed two shots and gave away a turnover, while Ryan sank one free throw and Kavon Lacey and Kenneth Harris two apiece to seal it for Evansville.

The victory was Evansville's 500th at the Division I level.
