Redshirt freshman guard Shamarr Bowden has decided to transfer from Charlotte, leaving the 49ers without one of their top 3-point shooting threats.
Coach Bobby Lutz said Monday he's unhappy with Bowden's decision, but respects it. Bowden will remain in school through the end of the semester and hasn't decided where he'll go in the fall.
After missing last season because of a broken kneecap, Bowden hit four 3-pointers in 67 seconds and scored 21 points in Charlotte's season-opening win over UNC Asheville. His numbers had declined since and he was averaging 5.7 points in 10 minutes per game. He was shooting 33 percent from 3-point range.
