Beane scores 19, leads S Illinois over Chicago St. 65-50

CARBONDALE, Ill. (AP) Anthony Beane had 19 points and matched a career-high with four steals to lead Southern Illinois to a 65-50 victory over Chicago State on Sunday.

Beane scored 12 points in the first half to help Southern Illinois build a 27-21 halftime lead. In the second, Jawad Adekoya made a pair of free throws to pull Chicago State within 27-23 with 18:51 to play, but the Cougars would not get closer.

Deion Lavender hit a 3-pointer to make it 50-37 with 9:21 remaining, and the Salukis led by double digits the rest of the way.

Beane shot 4 of 11 from the floor and 11 of 12 from the line. Jordan Caroline had 14 points, Lavender scored 11 points and Jalen Pendleton chipped in 10 for Southern Illinois (6-4).

Sean Hill and Trayvon Palmer each scored 10 points for Chicago State (2-9).
