Union-FC Dallas Preview (Apr 20, 2018)

FC Dallas is one of just two undefeated teams remaining in MLS through week seven and is looking to continue that momentum when it hosts the Philadelphia Union on Saturday at Toyota Stadium in the north Dallas suburb of Frisco, Texas.

FC Dallas is unbeaten in 10 straight home matches, though only three of those games have been victories (with seven draws).

FC Dallas (2-0-3) got a goal from Jacori Hayes in the 80th minute in a 1-0 road win over New England on April 14, but that was just the Huntsmen's second victory in a stretch when they thought they could have had more.

"We recognize the urgency to add three points at home without being too desperate for that," FC Dallas coach Oscar Pareja said. "We will emphasize on being solid defensively to keep the clean sheet in the back and find those key moments where we can put the ball in the back of the net."

Pareja made two changes to his starting lineup from a 1-1 draw against Colorado two weeks ago, with Victor Ulloa and Cristian Colman coming in and Mauro Diaz and Carlos Gruezo going to the bench in a revamped 4-4-2 formation. The new group did just enough to beat the Revolution.

Hayes was named to the MLS Team of the Week for Week 7 after latching onto a pass from Roland Lamah and slipping in the late winner.

"It's a happy moment -- I almost cried in the celebration," Hayes said of his game-winning goal. "The last 10 minutes of the game felt like forever. I was just happy to get the goal for the team."

Philadelphia (1-2-2) is winless in its past four matches and heads to north Texas on the heels of 2-0 home loss to Orlando City SC on April 13. Instead of building on a 1-1 draw with San Jose at home the week prior, the Union were left to lament a third straight home game without victory.

The Union will have to get on track on offense if it's going to beat FCD, especially on the road. Philadelphia has scored a total of three goals in its five matches this season, and two of those came in the season-opening win against New England.

"The ball is not bouncing our way right now," Union coach Jim Curtin said after the loss to Orlando SC. "It is not going in the net and now obviously confidence drops and we are not built to chase a game from behind.

"It is a challenge and the players are frustrated. It is difficult and we need to stick together in the hardest moment. We have to move forward and try to improve."

Striker Jay Simpson said the Union has created chances, but just hasn't been able to put them away.

"I think once we get a couple and the confidence starts coming back, hopefully the floodgates will open up," Simpson said.

The FC Dallas injury report lists midfielders Brandon Servania (compartment syndrome) and Paxton Pomykal (right meniscus surgery), forward Jesus Ferreira (core muscle repair surgery), and defenders Maynor Figueroa (right knee strain) as out of Saturday's match while midfielder Kellyn Acosta (sports hernia surgery) is considered questionable.

Philadelphia will be without defenders Fabinho (right meniscus surgery recovery) and Richie Marquez (sports hernia surgery).

The Union is winless in its last 13 league road games (with nine losses and four draws, the longest such streak in team history.

FC Dallas leads the overall series with the Union 5-1 with four draws and have won four of the five matches played between the sides in Dallas -- including a 2-0 victory in the latest match on March 6, 2016.
