Rivaldo joins Ronaldinho in support of far-right candidate

SAO PAULO (AP) — Former Brazil and Barcelona soccer star Rivaldo has endorsed a far-right candidate in Sunday’s first round of presidential elections in Brazil.

Rivaldo used his social media channels to support Jair Bolsonaro, the front-runner in the polls.

The 46-year-old 2002 World Cup winner joined his former teammate Ronaldinho, who announced his endorsement on Saturday.

Rivaldo said in his post that Brazil needed more jobs, rather than focusing on issues like sexism and racism.

“We need him (Bolsonaro) to solve the problems of our country, not to teach us values,” Rivaldo wrote.

Bolsonaro’s political platform mixes public security concerns, insults to minorities, pro-business ideas and conservative religion.
