Contract negotiations ongoing Espinoza's contract has run out with Sporting KC, and he will become a free agent on Jan. 1 if no new deal is agreed upon.

Impact Espinoza recorded one assist this season in 34 MLS appearances (24 starts) in midfield, but the 35-year-old ended the season as more of a backup option than a starter. Kansas City is still in discussions with Espinoza for a potential new contract, but if nothing materializes then he will enter free agency at the end of the year.

Creates two chances in loss Espinoza won four of five tackles and created two chances in Sunday's 1-0 defeat against Real Salt Lake. He also made a block and two interceptions in the match.

Impact Espinoza was solid on both sides of the ball on Sunday, even as his side lost to Salt Lake and missed out on the top seed in the Western Conference. He will be facing the Whitecaps in the first round of the playoffs, which are the No. 6 seed.

Impact Espinoza received a red card for both tackling and stepping on the right ankle of Cristian Arango. The former will sit out at least two games. Unfortunately for Espinoza, the suspension could give Cameron Duke or Jose Agustin Mauri multiple chances to prove their worth.
