Mexico striker Raul Jimenez to make return against Sweden

Wolverhampton striker Raul Jimenez is set to play his first game since August when Mexico takes on Sweden on Wednesday in its final warmup for the Qatar World Cup
NOVEMBER 15, 2022 • ASSOCIATED PRESS
Expected to play in friendly Jimenez (groin) is expected to get clearance for a Wednesday friendly against Sweden, according to national team manager Gerardo Martino.
Impact Jimenez did well enough to recover from a groin injury that's kept him out for all but three matches since August. Going into the Nov. 22 opener against Poland, Jimenez should be able to start at striker once he's considered fully fit. Until then it's Henry Martin who would spearhead the attack.

Out through World Cup Jimenez (groin) is not expected to return before the World Cup break. Manager Steve Davis told reporters, "I've watched him training in one-to-ones. I spoke to him, he said he's pr...
Impact Jimenez last got onto the pitch for Wolves against AFC Bournemouth on Aug. 31, a stretch of eight contests on the shelf. Once restored to the squad, Jimenez should be in contention for a spot in the starting XI and could offer top-end fantasy value given his offensive upside.

Back with team Jimenez (groin) returned to group training with Wolverhampton on Tuesday ahead of the weekend clash against Brighton.
Impact Jimenez has been out since August with a groin strain, but he is making progress with his recovery as his return to the squad shows. Wolves have three games remaining before the World Cup break -- including a Carabao Cup tie next week -- so Jimenez will hope to be able to make it on to the pitch and work up his match fitness before the tournament in Qatar begins.

Hopes to return before World Cup Jimenez (groin) remains out indefinitely but according to interim manager Steven Davis, the club are hopeful of getting Jimenez back before the World Cup break. "It's very difficul...
Impact The best chances of Jimenez returning sooner than expected is for his rehab to go absolutely perfectly, so it's not worth putting too much stock into his status until he's at least on a training pitch. Diego Costa has most recently taken over as the starting striker while Jimenez and Pedro Neto are out with longer-term injuries.

Top 50 players at 2022 World Cup, No. 50: Raúl Jiménez

Raúl Jiménez can shine for Mexico in Qatar. He's No. 50 on Stu Holden's list of 50 players to watch at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Could be dealing with long-term injury Jimenez has not featured for Mexico over the international break and according to head coach Gerardo Martino, the "injury is worrying."
Impact There is starting to be some worry that Jimenez won't be available for the World Cup, but clearly it's too soon to label him out for the tournament. In the near term, it's unlikely he'll be ready for Wolves coming out of the break with a return date unknown. His absence means Diego Costa could be moved into the starting XI after training over the break.

Mexico forward Jimenez out for Wolves; Costa possible v City

Wolverhampton forward Raul Jimenez hasn’t recovered from a groin injury and won’t be available to play against Manchester City on Saturday
SEPTEMBER 16, 2022 • ASSOCIATED PRESS
Facing multi-week absence Jimenez continues to deal with an adductor injury that is expected to take "a few weeks" to recover, according to the team's release Friday.
Impact The club did acknowledge that Jimenez would be traveling for the international break to work on his rehabilitation with the Mexican National Team but isn't expected to feature for the club. Given the recovery timeline, it seems unlikely the forward will be cleared in time to face West Ham United on Oct. 1, though he hasn't been officially ruled out.

Out against Man City Jimenez (groin) will remain out for Saturday's match against Manchester City, according to manager Bruno Lage.
Impact This is somewhat surprising for Jimenez, who was only thought to have a minor groin tweak two weeks ago. Since it's hard to see Diego Costa starting immediately, it's most likely Goncalo Guedes will come back into the starting XI Saturday with Pedro Neto and Daniel Podence working with him in the front.

Plays 31 minutes Jimenez played 31 minutes during a 1-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.
Impact Jimenez replaced Daniel Podence after 59 minutes. Despite not doing much to supply any value for fantasy managers, they should expect him starting regularly again soon.

Available versus Tottenham Jimenez (knee) is a bench option for Saturday's tilt against Tottenham.
Impact Jimenez is good to go after missing time with a knee sprain and could see some minutes in the second half if need be, especially since they are going without a proper striker to start the game. He posted six goals, fou assists, 57 shots (16 on target) and 38 chances in 34 games last season.
AUGUST 20, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Back in training Jimenez (knee) is back in training and wasn't ruled out by manager Bruno Lage ahead of Saturday's trip to Tottenham.
Impact It's hard to see Jimenez starting Saturday, but Wolves are fairly thin outside of a couple new signings. Jimenez strained his MCL less than a month ago and pushing him back into the squad seems like a mistake. At best, it seems like he'll be a bench option, as even if he's back in training, his fitness isn't likely close to 100 percent.
AUGUST 19, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Out weeks Jimenez is "expected to be out for a number of weeks" with an MCL strain and an adductor strain, according to team Doctor Rob Chakraverty.
Impact Jimenez picked up the knocks in a friendly over the weekend against Besiktas and it's been determined he'll need far more time to recover. This is likely to delay the start of his season and in the interim, Fabio Silva could be most likely to benefit, assuming his preseason hasn't gone too poorly. With six goals and four assists recorded last season, Jimenez has struggled to recapture his initial Premier League form following a devastating head injury two years ago.
JULY 27, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Picks up possible injury in friendly Jimenez was forced to come off in the 35th minute of Saturday's friendly against Besiktas with a potential groin injury.
Impact It's only two weeks before the season starts and an injury to Jimenez isn't what Wolves want. It's been a rough couple of seasons for him, as he fractured his skull two seasons ago and didn't look like his true self in the most recent campaign, something he'll hope to change in the new season, getting back to 2019/20 levels when he scored 17 goals.

Provides assist during loss Jimenez provided an assist, created two scoring chances and made two tackles (won one) during Sunday's 3-1 loss to Liverpool.
Impact Jimenez found Pedro Neto in the third minute to give Wolverhampton a 1-0 lead. In what was a season following a major head injury, Jimenez bounced back to six goals and four assists in 34 appearances (30 starts). He'll look to build on that in the offseason as Wolves compete for a place in European competition next season.

Heartbreak for Liverpool after losing out to Man City in EPL

Creates two chances in loss Jimenez took a shot on target and created two chances in Sunday's 1-0 defeat against Burnley. He also won two of three tackles in the match.
Impact Jimenez returned from a two-game red card suspension on Sunday, but he couldn't make the difference and find the breakthrough goal against Burnley. He was pushed back into the attacking midfield support behind Fabio Silva at striker for this game, rather than playing up top as a center forward or as part of a front two. It will be interesting to see if this is a lineup manager Bruno Lage tries again as the season winds down.
APRIL 24, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Available going forward Jimenez will be available for Wolves going forward after serving a two-match suspension for a red card.
Impact Jimenez will have to wait before returning to the XI, as Wolverhampton are off this weekend because of the FA Cup. He should return to his usual role for the April 24 trip to Burnley after Wolves had a mixed bag of results in his two-game absence.
