Finn Surman - Struggles in romp versus Belgium Surman registered one tackle (zero won), three blocks and two clearances and committed one foul in Friday's 5-1 loss against Belgium.
Impact Surman floundered for most of the fixture, and especially in the second half, as the New Zealand backline offered little resistance to Belgium's waves of offense, leading to a large defeat and resulting in an early World Cup elimination. He has tallied exactly three blocks and one tackle (two total won) and multiple clearances, amassing 14, in all three contests, scoring one goal, but with no clean sheets.

Finn Surman - Opens scoring Sunday Surman scored one goal to go with one shot (one on goal) in Sunday's 3-1 defeat to Egypt.
Impact Surman opened up the scoring Sunday with a header in the 15th minute assisted by Tim Payne's cross. Surman found himself unmarked in the box, giving him an easy opportunity to score his third career international goal and his first at the World Cup. Despite the strong start and first half from the Kiwis, Surman and the defense struggled mightily in the second half. Egypt scored thrice in the second half to complete the comeback and then some, exposing the New Zealand defense that has now allowed five goals through two matches at this World Cup. Next up is the final group stage match versus Belgium on Friday, a must-win match for both sides.

Antony Alves Santos - Finally scores again Antony scored one goal to go with two shots (one on goal), one cross (zero accurate) and two chances created in Saturday's 3-1 defeat versus San Jose Earthquakes.
Impact For the first time since the 2026 season's opening matchday, Antony has logged a goal. Ideally for him, his post-World Cup form features much more goal-scoring, considering he barely scored multiple times across 11 starts between February and May.
MAY 24 • ROTOWIRE
Kristoffer Velde - Strong effort from flank Velde had two shots (one on goal), eight crosses (three accurate) and four corners in Saturday's 3-1 loss versus San Jose Earthquakes.
Impact Across the Timbers' last four games, Velde averaged 3.8 chances created and 2.5 accurate crosses, excelling out wide. Going into the World Cup respite, his 2026 season's 14 appearances feature one assist on 53 corners, 25 chances created and 24 accurate crosses.
MAY 24 • ROTOWIRE
Kevin Kelsy - Attempts four shots Kelsy registered four shots (one on goal) and two chances created in Saturday's 3-1 defeat to San Jose Earthquakes.
Impact For 2026, four is Kelsy's second-highest number of shots attempted. With his 24 (11 on goal) before the World Cup respite, he has scored five across 14 appearances and nine starts.

Kamal Miller - Starting against San Jose Miller (hamstring) has made the starting lineup for Saturday's match against San Jose Earthquakes.
Impact Miller won't be forced to miss time with the muscular injury he picked up during the previous visit to Miami. Therefore, the defender will keep his hopes of representing Canada at the World Cup intact. He's now joining Finn Surman in the middle of a back four, and most of his value should come from passes and defensive numbers.

Jose Caicedo - Remains questionable Caicedo (thigh) is a "major doubt" ahead of Saturday's meeting with San Jose Earthquakes, as confirmed by coach Phil Neville on Thursday, Adam Susman of The Timber Review reports.
Impact Caicedo may not see more action before the World Cup break if he fails to recover quickly from his injury. In that case, Cole Bassett will remain active alongside either Diego Chara (undisclosed) or Joao Ortiz. Prior to the problem, Caicedo served as a consistent defensive contributor over a run of six league appearances between April and May.
MAY 21 • ROTOWIRE
Diego Chara - Doubt for Saturday Chara could miss the upcoming game against San Jose after manager Phil Neville named him as a "major doubt for Saturday", Adam Susman of The Timber Review reports.
Impact Chara is likely dealing with an injury, joining Jose Caicedo (thigh) among the Timbers' midfield concerns. The 40-year-old made his first start in two months last weekend against Inter Miami, but he recorded 45 minutes of play. If both Chara and Caicedo continue to struggle with fitness issues, Joao Ortiz could find a rare chance to partner Cole Bassett in the central zone.

Kristoffer Velde - Sends in nine crosses in loss Velde registered four shots (two on goal), nine crosses (two accurate) and five corners in Sunday's 2-0 loss against Inter Miami CF.

Antony Alves Santos - Takes four shots at Miami Antony recorded four shots (zero on goal), three crosses (zero accurate) and one chance created in Sunday's 2-0 loss to Inter Miami CF.
Impact Antony led Portland with a season-high four shots, but couldn't help them avoid the road loss. The midfielder also sent in his most crosses in 12 appearances (10 starts). He has one goal and one assist over that span.
MAY 21 • ROTOWIRE
James Pantemis - Makes seven saves in loss Pantemis registered seven saves and allowed two goals in Sunday's 2-0 loss to Inter Miami CF.
Impact Pantemis made his second-most saves in the season, but it wasn't enough to avoid the road loss. The goalkeeper has one clean sheet in 13 starts. He will now look to bounce back against San Jose on Saturday.

Kamal Miller - WC availability in doubt Miller (hamstring) was forced off during Portland's 2-0 loss to Inter Miami on Sunday after appearing to clutch the back of his leg, with early indications pointing toward a possib...
Impact Miller was visibly in pain as he left the pitch, adding another injury concern to an already depleted Canadian defensive unit ahead of the World Cup. The veteran defender's potential absence compounds a difficult situation for coach Jesse Marsch, who is already without several key defensive options including Alphonso Davies, who is battling a hamstring setback, and Ralph Priso, who suffered a serious hamstring injury in March and will not recover in time for the tournament. Canada opens its World Cup campaign against Bosnia and Herzegovina in Toronto on June 12, with several key defensive players now facing uncertain fitness situations ahead of the tournament.
