Jonjo Shelvey - Out up to a month Shelvey will miss three-to-four weeks after a hamstring scan revealed the damage was "not too serious," reports Craig Hope of Daily Mail.

Impact Shelvey will miss two matches at a minimum and that number will probably turn into three or four. He battled numerous muscular injuries last season and it looks like he'll have similar issues in the new campaign. Fortunately for Newcastle, they're a little deeper than last season, as Joe Willock and Sean Longstaff are the likely options to replace Shelvey in the starting XI.

Maybe more troublesome is that he had multiple muscle injuries last year and is opening the new season with another one. Eddie Howe likes Shelvey, but injuries could mean more time for Joe Willock or Sean Longstaff in the starting XI.

Impact Fraser hurt his hamstring just before the season ended and is at least back to fitness for a preseason game. Should he stay available over the rest of his preparation, Fraser is capable of starting on either attacking flank. In two seasons with Newcastle, he's scored twice and logged three assists, which are substantial drop-offs from his production when he broke onto the scene with Bournemouth between 2016 and 2020.
