Alassane Plea - Scores Friday Plea scored a goal on one shot in Friday's 1-1 draw with Bayern Munich.
Impact Plea was no doubt disappointed to fail to register double-digit goals last year for the first time since 2015-16 when he was with Nice but needed just 10 minutes into the new campaign to open his goal account. The forward should continue to feature as the focal point of the attack the rest of the year and should be a top-end fantasy target.
AUGUST 13, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Yann Sommer - Phenomenal in draw Sommer made eight saves while giving up just one goal in a 1-1 draw with Bayern Munich on Friday.
Impact Sommer's season-high save tally was six in 2020-21 and has already topped that mark versus a star-studded Bayern Munich. The keeper should face slightly less pressure against Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday but figures to continue racking up saves.
AUGUST 13, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Jonas Hofmann - Held in reserve Friday Hofmann (knee) is available off the bench for Friday's clash with Bayern Munich.
Impact With Hofmann out of the starting XI, it will likely fall to Lars Stindl to take over as the primary corner and free-kick option. If Hofmann does come on as a substitute, it could clear the way for him to rejoin the starting XI versus Bayer Leverkusen on Aug. 21, which would see him retake his role and provide top-end fantasy value.
AUGUST 13, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Marcus Thuram - Makes bench in opener Thuram (knee) is on the bench for Friday's opener against Bayern Munich.
Impact Thuram is slowly recovering from a knee issue that held him out the majority of preseason. The good news is that he's healthy enough to be an option and will probably come off the bench at some point Friday, likely for Patrick Herrmann or Hannes Wolf on the wings.
AUGUST 13, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Mamadou Doucoure - Still recovering from injury Doucoure (Achilles) remains sidelined as he works his way back from injury and won't be an option against Bayern Munich on Friday.
Impact Doucoure hasn't gotten onto the pitch for Monchengladbach since June 16, 2020, versus Wolfsburg in which he made a one-minute appearance off the bench. Even once cleared to play, the defender is far from a lock for the starting XI and shouldn't be expected to offer much in the way of fantasy value.
AUGUST 11, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Ramy Bensebaini - Officially ruled out Friday Bensebaini (thigh) will miss the season opener against Bayern Munich on Friday.
Impact Bensebaini registered six goals on 26 shots (10 accurate), 58 interceptions and 78 clearances in 30 appearances (25 starts) across the Bundesliga and Europa League. Without Bensebaini in the squad, youngster Joe Scally is expected to deputize in the starting XI.
AUGUST 11, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Breel Embolo - Remains sidelined Embolo (hamstring) continues to be sidelined due to his hamstring injury suffered during Euros and won't be an option against Bayern Munich on Friday.
Impact Embolo's absence will likely see Patrick Herrmann feature in the starting XI, something he did just nine times last year. At this point, Embolo should be considered out indefinitely with no clear timeline to get back onto the pitch. Once cleared to play, Embolo should be in the mix for regular starting minutes.
AUGUST 11, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Jonas Hofmann - Likely available Friday Hofmann is expected to be available versus Bayern Munich on Friday despite missing much of first-team training of late after manager Adi Hutter told reports. "Marcus Thuram and Hof...
Impact Hofmann -- who picked up his knee injury during Euros -- appears to be trending in the right direction but certainly shouldn't be considered a lock for the starting XI even if cleared. Having said that, If Hofmann does start, he figures to offer top-end fantasy value due to his ability to rack up crosses and corners for Gladbach.
AUGUST 11, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Marcus Thuram - Could feature Friday Thuram (knee) is slated to be an option against Bayern Munich on Friday despite limited training time. Manager Adi Hutter told reporters, "Thuram and Jonas Hofmann (knee) haven't t...
Impact Thuram's potential absence would certainly limit Gladbach's attacking options, especially if Hofmann (knee) is also unavailable. It's possible Thuram will be utilized off the bench as a way to ease him back into action if not 100 percent ahead of Friday's clash.
AUGUST 11, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Alassane Plea - On bench Monday Plea (knee) will be available off the bench in Monday's DFB-Pokal clash with FC Kaiserslautern.
Impact Plea missed the final match of the 2020-21 campaign due to his knee problem but appears to be ready for the upcoming season. In the Bundesliga opener against Bayern Munich on Friday, Plea should be in the mix for the starting XI and should provide top-end fantasy value.
AUGUST 9, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Alassane Plea - Resumes training Friday Plea (knee) took part in first-team training Friday. Manager Adi Hutter told reporters, "Alassane Plea and Jonas Hofmann will join training today, but it's not clear if they'll be...
Impact While it's certainly good news for the club to have Plea back in training, the fact that he is going to miss the club's DFB-Pokal clash raises some doubts regarding his availability for the season opener versus Bayern Munich on Aug. 13. If healthy, Plea figures to be a near-lock for the starting XI, especially if Breel Embolo (hamstring) is also unavailable.
AUGUST 6, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Luca Netz - Joins Gladbach on permanent deal Netz completed a transfer to Monchengladbach from Hertha Berlin on Friday.
Impact Netz played in just 11 games (two starts) for Hertha last year, so he is far from a lock for the starting XI with his new club. As such, the defender shouldn't be expected to offer much in the way of fantasy production.
AUGUST 6, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Jonas Hofmann - Returns from Euros Hofmann returned to is club from the Euros ahead of Sunday's friendly against Groningen.
Impact Hofmann didn't play but wasn't named on the injury list with a few of his teammates, so there's some positive news on his status ahead of the coming season. He logged an impressive six goals and 11 assists in 24 appearances during the 2020/21 campaign.
AUGUST 2, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Alassane Plea - Out with knee injury Plea suffered a capsule injury in his right knee during Saturday's friendly against Metz and is out indefinitely.
Impact Plea has seen his minutes decline in each successive season with Gladbach, despite scoring the double-digits until the 2020/21 campaign. His ability to play will be further limited by this injury, though there's just over two weeks until the league season begins and he may not be back by then.
JULY 26, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Ramy Bensebaini - Suffers thigh injury Bensebaini picked up a thigh injury in training, his club announced Thursday.
Impact Bensebaini scored a solid four goals in 25 league appearances last season but will miss a part of his preseason training due to this injury. There are enough options at center-back if Bensebaini can't play when the season begins, though it's not as clear who could play left-back just yet.
JULY 22, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Conor Noss - Extends contract with club Noss inked a three-year contract extension with Monchengladbach through 2024 on Wednesday.
Impact Noss has thus far split his time between the U19 and second team and will be looking to break into the senior squad over the course of his new deal. In the short term, the midfielder shouldn't be expected to have much impact in the Bundesliga this year, making him a non-factor in fantasy contests.
JULY 7, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Kouadio Kone - Facing extended absence Kone sustained an MCL injury in his right knee at Tuesday's training session and is expected to be sidelined indefinitely.
Impact Kone has just linked up with the club after finishing out the year with Toulouse in Ligue 1 and would likely have pushed for a spot in the starting XI for the season opener against Bayern Munich on Aug. 13. Instead, the midfielder could be on the shelf for the first several contests as he works his way back from this injury.
JULY 7, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Breel Embolo - Hamstring injury confirmed Embolo suffered a hamstring injury in Switzerland's final match of the Euros and will be out "until further notice."
Impact Embolo will rest up over the next month and hope to be ready for at least one or two of Gladbach's matches in the upcoming preseason. This doesn't sound like a minor hamstring injury, so there's a chance this absence bleeds into the new campaign. The main goal will be for him to be fully healthy upon return to the pitch.
JULY 6, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Yann Sommer - Stands tall in loss Sommer conceded one goal and made 10 saves during Friday's loss to Spain on penalties.
Impact Sommer's confidence was high after beating France on penalties in the Round of 16, but a failure to repeat the act Friday meant his performance is now history. Though he conceded 50 goals in 31 games for Borussia Monchengladbach last season, Sommer could be set for a big season if he's still riding high when the coming club season begins.
JULY 3, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Denis Zakaria - Concedes own goal in loss Zakaria conceded an own goal during Friday's loss to Spain on penalties.
Impact Zakaria was unfortunate to cause a heavy re-direction which sent Jordi Alba's shot past Yann Sommer in goal. Given that is was his first start of the tournament as well, things will look even more disappointing now that Switzerland's impressive run to the quarterfinals is over. With just 25 appearances made last season for Borussia Monchengladbach, Zakaria can certainly have a bigger influence than he currently does.
JULY 3, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Breel Embolo - Exits with injury Embolo was forced off in the 23rd minute against Spain on Friday with an apparent hamstring injury.
Impact Embolo has started all four matches for Switzerland this tournament in which he generated one goal on 11 shots (four on target), two crosses (zero accurate) and five chances created. With Switzerland trailing 1-0 to Spain when Embolo was subbed off, this could be the final minutes of Euro 2020 for the forward.
JULY 2, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Breel Embolo - Draws three fouls in win Embolo had one shot not on target, one chance created and three fouls drawn in Monday's win against France.
Impact Embolo did his usual work up front for Switzerland and it unfortunately didn't lead to a spot on the score-sheet. He was also subbed off early Monday, which isn't a good sign ahead of the next game against Spain. He's a great hold-up forward, but Haris Seferovic has been the one heading goals in for the Swiss.
JUNE 29, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Yann Sommer - Concedes three goals against France Sommer made five saves but conceded three goals in Monday's 3-3 (5-4 after penalties) defeat against France.
Impact Sommer suffered through a torrid stretch on Monday where his opponents showcased their superior talent and scored three goals in 20 minutes. But he recovered -- and so did his side, which equalized via goals from Haris Seferovic and Mario Gavranovic in the final 10 minutes of regulation -- and saved Kylian Mbappe's decisive penalty in the shootout, knocking out the tournament favorites and World Cup champions. On Friday, he has a quarterfinal clash against Spain, which have scored 10 goals in just their last two games.

Nico Elvedi - Starts every group match Elvedi started and went a full 90 in all three group matches, supplying three tackles won, six interceptions and six clearances.
Impact Elvedi doesn't have a clean sheet or overwhelming defensive numbers, so his fantasy value as a center-back is limited at best. A matchup with France in the first round of knockouts is unlikely to boost those numbers, as well.
