GAME LOG

Scores opening goal Akanji scored one goal to go with one shot (one on goal) in Wednesday's 3-1 victory against FC Copenhagen.
Impact Akanji was the unsuspecting recipient of the first goal of the match, scoring in the fourth minute off of a Julian Alvarez assist. This was a rare goal for Akanji, although he is making it much more expected, as he now has four goals this season between the UCL and Champions League, tying the same amount he put up in the previous three campaigns combined. He also was decent in the defense during the win, notching one shot, an interception and three clearances.

Given spot on bench Akanji (undisclosed) is on the bench for Monday's contest against Brentford.
Impact Akanji is back on the team sheet as expected, recovering from an undisclosed injury that left him out over the club's past two matches. The defender is used in more of a rotational role, so it should be no surprise to see him line up on the bench in his return. He will most likely find the starting XI in the coming contests after reaching full fitness, continuing to share time with Nathan Ake in the middle of the defense.

Ready to go Akanji (undisclosed) is available for Monday's trip to Brentford, according to manager Pep Guardiola. "Manu [Akanji] is back as well. The busy period is here, and the Champions Lea...
Impact Akanji missed out against Burnley on Wednesday but it appears that he is back, whatever the prior concern was. Akanji has been a consistent starter of late, but with John Stones back from a muscular concern Akanji may see a bit more rotation moving forward.

Out against Burnley Akanji (undisclosed) is out for Wednesday's match against Burnley.
Impact Akanji looked to be an option for Wednesday's contest after returning to training this week but instead, he will stay on the sidelines for another game. With a quick turnaround into Monday's match against Brentford, the club will hope for the defender to shake off the injury by then, returning to play and adding more depth in a busy section of the year,

Available for selection Akanji (knee) has returned to training and appears to be an option for Wednesday's match against Burnley, according to manager Pep Guardiola. "The most important news is almost all...
Impact Akanji seems to be in line for a return Wednesday, having missed the club's previous match against Newcastle due to a knee issue. This is a decent development for City, as with John Stones also returning this week, the club now only has one injury within the team as they wait on their star man Erling Haaland to return. There is a decent chance we could see Akanji return to the starting XI immediately, with the defender starting in all but three Premier League matches he has been available for this season. However, if not, expect Ruben Dias and Nathan Ake to get the start in the center of the defense, with Akanji most likely earning time off the bench at some point in the contest.

Set for a couple weeks on sidelines Akanji (undisclosed) is set to be out for the next couple of weeks and is expected to return sometime at the end of January, according to manager Pep Guardiola, per Ben Dinnery of...
Impact Akanji was not an option for this weekend's win against Newcastle after going down with a knock in the club's FA Cup match against Huddersfield and is now expected to not return till the end of the month, according to manager Pep Guardiola. This is a decent blow for the club that has struggled to keep clean sheets this season, but there shouldn't be much concern with numerous viable options off the bench. He will be scheduled for a return near the end of the month, either against Burnley in the Premier League on Jan. 31 or against Tottenham in the FA Cup on Jan. 26. Until then, expect Nathan Ake, Ruben Dias, Josko Garvdiol and Kyle Walker to get most of the time in the defense, as the club is also without John Stones due to an ankle issue.

Starts in Club World Cup Akanji got the start and played 64 minutes during Tuesday's 3-0 win over Urawa Red Diamonds.
Impact Akanji was back in the starting XI to kick off the Club World Cup and put together a solid hour on the pitch. The defender remains a consistent piece of the starting XI. Akanji's only flaw really is the same as any other Manchester City player, plenty of rotation that more often than not prevents a long string of games in the starting XI.

Traveling Sunday Akanji (back) is traveling for Saturday's clash with Liverpool, according to manager Pep Guardiola. "[Manuel Akanji] trained today and will travel."
Impact Akanji is back in team training and should be an option for Saturday's match. With John Stones (thigh) ruled out Akanji could be brought straight back into the starting XI even with his back injury. Akanji will have the international break to recover after Sunday's trip.

Back injury confirmed Akanji was a late scratch due to a back injury, according to manager Pep Guardiola. "Well, Manu had a problem in his back. "
Impact Akanji was reported as having an illness by Manchester City, but has now been corrected by Guardiola. A back injury is far more concerning than any sort of illness, and with John Stones (thigh) set to miss an extended period there's serious concerns about center-back depth in Manchester. Kyle Walker slotted into the starting XI on Tuesday and could be in line for some major minutes moving forward.
NOVEMBER 7, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Scratched due to illness Akanji (illness) was a late scratch for Tuesday's clash with Young Boys.
Impact Akanji was scratched for Kyle Walker after struggling with illness in the warmups. Akanji's status should be updated after the game but unless it's a serious illness he should have a shot to play during a Sunday trip to Chelsea, or at least make the bench.

Impact Akanji scored in the 37th minute to give Manchester City the 3-0 lead at home during the easy win. The centerback now has two goals in the season, both in his last two starts. He had a pretty quiet outing on defense, as they were not really tested, but failed to keep the clean sheet.

Suspension served Akanji will be in contention against Bournemouth on Saturday after serving his one-match suspension.
Impact Akanji started five of the club's last six contests prior to his sending-off in which he recorded one goal on four shots (two on target), eight clearances and two crosses (zero accurate). With the central defender available again, he should be in the mix to retake his spot in the starting XI which could see John Stones relegated to a spot on the bench.

Impact Akanji earned his first goal of the 2023/24 campaign after scoring a rebound in the 48th minute to give City a 1-0 lead. It was a rare goal for the defender, only his second in the past two years after coincidentally scoring in last season's UCL campaign as well. He will unfortunately be unavailable for Sunday's match against Manchester United after picking up a straight red card against Brighton.

Impact Akanji had a decent contribution on both sides of the pitch in the loss, notching three shots, two crosses and a chance created in the offense to go with four tackles, two clearances and one block in the defense. The defender has now started both games since returning from his small knock and should continue to be a regular starter, spending some time on the bench as he shares time with Josko Gvardiol and Nathan Ake.
