Penalty miss sees Swiss exit
Akanji had five clearances in Saturday's 1-1 (6-4) penalty shootout loss versus England.
Impact
Akanji missed the only penalty that saw England progress to the semi-final. For the second time this tournament, he made five clearances and completed 105 passes, a personal high for the tournament, although this was in 120 minutes. This was also the second highest on the pitch, only behind Granit Xhaka.

Fills stat sheet against Italy
Akanji created one scoring chance and registered four clearances, two blocks and two interceptions in Saturday's 2-0 win versus Italy.
Impact
Akanji had a spotless performance like the rest of the Swiss rearguard, helped by the sterile Italy offense. He has recorded four interceptions, 15 clearances and five blocks in four games.

Holds starting spot in defense
Akanji made 30 appearances (28 starts), notching two goals on 15 shots to go along with 23 interceptions, 42 tackles and 61 clearances.
Impact
Akanji maintained a decent presence in the starting XI last season but saw a boost in time this campaign, starting four more times and becoming an everyday sight in the defense. He also saw his best season attacking-wise, notching four goals across all competitions, giving him a new career-high for a season. He should come into City next season holding the same role, likely sharing time with Nathan Ake and John Stones if both remain at the club.

Admirable in last start of season
Akanji won his lone tackle and logged one clearance during Manchester City's 3-1 win Sunday against West Ham.
Impact
Akanji helped Manchester City defensively excel from late-April onward with seven clearances and six tackles won across the team's last six games, during which it conceded only two goals. He finished the 2023-24 Premier League with two goals, 13 chances created, 61 clearances, 28 tackles won, 23 interceptions and 12 blocks across 30 appearances (28 starts). Compared to his debut 2022-23 season with Man City, he improved in every one of the aforementioned categories. Akanji provided a promising level of form going into Euro 2024, when he is expected to be an integral rep for Switzerland.

Ready to go
Akanji (undisclosed) is ready to go for Sunday's clash with Arsenal, according to manager Pep Guardiola.
Impact
Akanji is okay after returning from international duty early. The defender was never in real doubt as his withdrawal from international duty was always expected to be more precautionary. Akanji could be in the starting XI on Sunday with John Stones (groin) and Kyle Walker (hamstring) ruled out.

Withdraws from national team
Akanji appears to have picked up a knock during his time with the Swiss national team, per Skysports.com.
Impact
Akanji looks to have picked up a blow right before the all-important match against Arsenal, as he returned to City early from his international duties due to a knock. This is not what City was looking for, as John Stones and Kyle Walker have also gone down during the international break. However, Akanji's situation looks to be a little better after only being deemed a knock, although reports of testing are yet to be released, so it is still unsure what he is dealing with or when he will be back. He will most likely still be in doubt for Sunday's match, facing a late fitness test to decide if he makes the team sheet or not.

Scores opening goal
Akanji scored one goal to go with one shot (one on goal) in Wednesday's 3-1 victory against FC Copenhagen.
Impact
Akanji was the unsuspecting recipient of the first goal of the match, scoring in the fourth minute off of a Julian Alvarez assist. This was a rare goal for Akanji, although he is making it much more expected, as he now has four goals this season between the UCL and Champions League, tying the same amount he put up in the previous three campaigns combined. He also was decent in the defense during the win, notching one shot, an interception and three clearances.

Given spot on bench
Akanji (undisclosed) is on the bench for Monday's contest against Brentford.
Impact
Akanji is back on the team sheet as expected, recovering from an undisclosed injury that left him out over the club's past two matches. The defender is used in more of a rotational role, so it should be no surprise to see him line up on the bench in his return. He will most likely find the starting XI in the coming contests after reaching full fitness, continuing to share time with Nathan Ake in the middle of the defense.

Out against Burnley
Akanji (undisclosed) is out for Wednesday's match against Burnley.
Impact
Akanji looked to be an option for Wednesday's contest after returning to training this week but instead, he will stay on the sidelines for another game. With a quick turnaround into Monday's match against Brentford, the club will hope for the defender to shake off the injury by then, returning to play and adding more depth in a busy section of the year,

Impact
Akanji seems to be in line for a return Wednesday, having missed the club's previous match against Newcastle due to a knee issue. This is a decent development for City, as with John Stones also returning this week, the club now only has one injury within the team as they wait on their star man Erling Haaland to return. There is a decent chance we could see Akanji return to the starting XI immediately, with the defender starting in all but three Premier League matches he has been available for this season. However, if not, expect Ruben Dias and Nathan Ake to get the start in the center of the defense, with Akanji most likely earning time off the bench at some point in the contest.

Impact
Akanji was not an option for this weekend's win against Newcastle after going down with a knock in the club's FA Cup match against Huddersfield and is now expected to not return till the end of the month, according to manager Pep Guardiola. This is a decent blow for the club that has struggled to keep clean sheets this season, but there shouldn't be much concern with numerous viable options off the bench. He will be scheduled for a return near the end of the month, either against Burnley in the Premier League on Jan. 31 or against Tottenham in the FA Cup on Jan. 26. Until then, expect Nathan Ake, Ruben Dias, Josko Garvdiol and Kyle Walker to get most of the time in the defense, as the club is also without John Stones due to an ankle issue.

Starts in Club World Cup
Akanji got the start and played 64 minutes during Tuesday's 3-0 win over Urawa Red Diamonds.
Impact
Akanji was back in the starting XI to kick off the Club World Cup and put together a solid hour on the pitch. The defender remains a consistent piece of the starting XI. Akanji's only flaw really is the same as any other Manchester City player, plenty of rotation that more often than not prevents a long string of games in the starting XI.

Akanji (back) is traveling for Saturday's clash with Liverpool, according to manager Pep Guardiola. "[Manuel Akanji] trained today and will travel."
