Set to retire Hasebe announced Wednesday that he would be retiring at the end of the season.
Impact Hasebe has finally decided to call it quits as he is prepared to hang up the boots at the end of the season at the age of 40. The defender served in the J1 league of Japan before making his transfer to the Bundesliga, playing for three dirrent German teams while accumulating over 380 appearances over his time in Germany. He served the bulk of his career in Frankfurt, having played with the team since 2014, reaching three DFB Pokal finals and one Europa Cup final while with the club, and now ending his time as a professional footballer with the team. His retirement should come as no suprise, as he is getting up there in age and only featured in 11 matches this campaign.
APRIL 17, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Makes rare appearance Hasebe recorded one cross (zero accurate) and two clearances in Sunday's 3-3 draw versus SC Freiburg.
Impact Hasebe got on the pitch in a rare start with Robin Koch suspended for Sunday's draw. The defender already has agreed a deal with Frankfurt to join the coaching staff following the end of his playing career and he's already stepping into that role. While he may make occasional appearances, Hasebe's days as an every day starter are in the past despite this solid start.
FEBRUARY 19, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Rare start in cup Hasebe got the start during Wednesday's 2-0 loss to Saarbrucken in the DFB Pokal.
Impact Hasebe was back in the starting XI, making a rare appearance for the club in the Pokal. The defensive midfielder is essentially a player-coach at this point, and has even signed an agreement to join the coaching staff when he retires. Despite that he continues to produce top quality performances when called upon.
DECEMBER 6, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Makes bench Sunday Hasebe (illness) is on the bench for Sunday's match against Koln.
Impact Hasebe didn't play last week against Mainz, but he recovered in time to make the bench here. The veteran defensive specialist has yet to make a start in the current Bundesliga campaign, so his absence from the starting lineup shouldn't alter many fantasy decisions.
SEPTEMBER 3, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Unavailable Sunday Hasebe is not in the match day squad to face Mainz on Sunday due to illness.
Impact Hasebe misses out on Sunday's match after picking up an illness which also kept him out of mid week Conference League action. The veteran defender is a nice depth option for Frankfurt when fully fit.
AUGUST 27, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Dealing with illness Hasebe won't travel with the team to face Levski in Thursday's Conference League matchup due to illness.
Impact Hasebe logged 25 minutes off the bench in the season opener versus Darmstadt, so his absence from the squad is unlikely to impact the starting XI. Barring a more severe illness, Hasebe could still be an option for Sunday's Bundesliga clash with Mainz.
AUGUST 23, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Still going strong Hasebe made 18 appearances (15 starts) during the 2022/23 Bundesliga, keeping two clean sheets.
Impact Hasebe signed a one-year contract extension and March and proceeded to be a nailed-on starter for the remainder of the Bundesliga. The center-back is likely to remain a depth option with Tuta, Evan N'Dicka and Almamy Toure likely to be starting back three. Hasebe has also already signed an agreement to joined Frankfurt as a coach when he decides to end his playing career.

Former Japan captain Makoto Hasebe is not done yet
MARCH 21, 2023 • Associated Press
Extends contract with Eintracht Hasebe has signed a one-year contract extension with Eintracht Frankfurt, the club announced Tuesday.
Impact Hasebe has dropped out of Frankfurt's regular XI, but the 39-year-old is still a good backup option in central defense as he's kept four clean sheets in 14 appearances (11 starts) across the Bundesliga and Champions League this season. He's now signed on for another campaign with the club through 2023/24.
MARCH 21, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Quiet outing at Leipzig Hasebe registered one tackle (won), one interception, one clearance and a yellow card in Saturday's 2-1 loss at Leipzig.
Impact Hasebe had a quiet outing and couldn't help his side earn at least one point on the road. The centerback also received his third yellow card of the season. That was his ninth start so far, as he missed time with a torn MCL before.
FEBRUARY 27, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Records four blocks Hasebe logged four blocks in Saturday's 3-0 win against Hertha Berlin.
Impact Hasebe has been part of Eintracht Frankfurt's starting XI during each of his last two appearances. After helping limit Bayern Munich to less than multiple goals at the Allianz Arena on Jan. 28, Hasebe helped the team maintain its first clean sheet since Jan. 21. Should he continue starting, that would prevent Kristijan Jakic from re-entering the starting XI.
FEBRUARY 4, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Makes bench against Schalke Hasebe is fit and in the match day squad to face Schalke on Saturday.
Impact Hasebe is good to go after dealing with a cold in the buildup to the match. The defender starts from the bench after making just four appearances in the first half of the Bundesliga campaign.
JANUARY 21, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Dealing with cold Hasebe did not train with Eintracht on Wednesday due to a cold.
Impact Hasebe still has a few days to get healthy before the clash against Schalke this weekend. His last Bundesliga appearance came back on Oct. 1 as he missed a few weeks before the World Cup break with a torn MCL.
JANUARY 18, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Plays in friendly Hasebe (knee) played during a friendly in Frankfurt's tour of Japan.
Impact Hasebe made his return to the pitch in a friendly during Frankfurt's international tour. The defender is set to become a coach at the end of the season and is little more than a depth option at center-back for the second half of the Bundesliga.

MATCHDAY: EPL strugglers try to get out of trouble

It is a big day at the foot of the English Premier League with relegation strugglers Wolverhampton and Nottingham Forest meeting at Molineux
OCTOBER 14, 2022 • Associated Press
Out multiple weeks Hasebe will miss multiple weeks due to a torn MCL, manager Oliver Glasner announced Friday ahead of Saturday's match against Bayer Leverkusen.
Impact Hasebe doesn't need to worry about returning in time for the World Cup, as he retired from the Japanese national team in 2018. As a result, he may be out until 2023 if he's not back by early-November. In his place, Eric Junior could start at center-back unless the formation changes to a back-four, at which point Tuta and Evan N'Dicka would be the top starters.
OCTOBER 14, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Brought off after challenge Hasebe was brought off in the second half of Wednesday's Champions League clash with Tottenham.
Impact Hasebe had a heavy collision with Son Heung-Min and was unable to carry on, coming off for Eric Junior. With Tuta getting sent off and Hasebe now dealing with a knock Frankfurt are down to one fit center-back. If this injury proves serious Frankfurt could be forced into a change of formation for a Saturday clash with Leverkusen in the Bundesliga.
OCTOBER 12, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Stars for clean sheet in first start Hasebe held a clean sheet and added three aerials won, four fouls drawn and five clearances in Tuesday's 1-0 win over Marseille.
Impact Hasebe was absolutely superb in his first start of the season and fully deserved an immediate clean sheet. The veteran though should remain mostly limited off the bench and unless Eintracht switch to three-man back line permanently the defender should go back to the bench over the weekend.
SEPTEMBER 14, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Loses playing time Hasebe made 18 appearances (12 starts) throughout the 2021/22 Bundesliga season.
Impact Hasebe's role continues to to shrink as he enters his age-39 season. The midfielder has now moved back into a role as a center-back and signed a new contract with the club that will see him join the club as a coach following the 2022/23 season. Hasebe is a veteran presence and essentially a player-coach at this point, he won't be expected to take any major minutes in the 2022/23 campaign.
JUNE 8, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Returns to training Hasebe (chest) has returned to full team training, Frankfurt announced Thursday.
Impact Hasebe is back in training, somehow, which makes little sense, but evidently Hasebe has healed quickly. It's unlikely that he plays Saturday during the trip to Koln, but a full return to training gives Hasebe a chance. It would be ill-advised for Hasebe to rush back Saturday.
FEBRUARY 17, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Sidelined for at least two weeks Hasebe (chest) has suffered a pneumothorax and will be out for at least two weeks, Frankfurt announced.
Impact Hasebe is expected to be out for at least two weeks, though four weeks would be more fitting for the injury, especially if he has an oft-associated broken rib. The midfielder is a defensive option who often slides into the middle of a back three, and is a big depth loss for Frankfurt.
FEBRUARY 9, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Leaves late with injury Hasebe was forced off in the second half of Saturday's match with Stuttgart due to a head injury.
Impact Hasebe left the pitch after being taken out by goalkeeper Kevin Trapp during a clearance in the 86th minute. The defender was able to leave the pitch under his own power, but more information about the extent of injury should be available ahead of next week's match with Wolfsburg.
FEBRUARY 5, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Makes five clearances in win Hasebe made three tackles (two won), five clearances and three interceptions while helping his side to keep a clean sheet during Saturday's 1-0 win over Mainz.
Impact Hasebe was back into the starting XI and racked up some nice numbers to help his side shutting the opposition down for the third time this season. The defender looks consolidated once again as a starter and will try to remain productive during Jan. 8 home match against Borussia Dortmund.
DECEMBER 19, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Starting against Bochum Hasebe is in Eintracht's starting lineup for Sunday's clash against VfL Bochum.
Impact Eintracht manager Oliver Glasner had said that Hasebe might be rested this week, but he's in the XI from the start on Sunday.
OCTOBER 24, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
May be rested Sunday Hasebe could be rested Sunday against Bochum, according to manager Oliver Glasner.
Impact Hasebe might be rested Sunday after playing twice in the past five days. The midfielder has been dealing with small muscular issues, so he may be in line for some rest Sunday. If Hasebe is sidelined Djibril Sow might take his place in the starting XI.
