Lyle Foster - Soccer News, Rumors, & Updates

Substitute option Saturday Foster (not injury related) is on the bench for Saturday's duel versus Sporting Kansas City.

Impact Foster will aim to make his MLS debut following his transfer to Houston from English side Burnley after the World Cup. He should eventually have a decent chance to become the squad's main center-forward, but he'll initially split workload with Guilherme and Duncan McGuire. The new signing had made 89 appearances for his previous club over the last few Premier League and Championship seasons, scoring 11 goals and 10 assists over that period.

Won't play Saturday Foster was listed as out for Saturday's visit to Charlotte for reasons not related to injury.

Impact Foster signed with Houston in the final days of the transfer window with the aim of becoming their starting striker, but his debut for the club will have to wait at least a few days. While the nature of his absence hasn't been revealed, it's likely he's still dealing with visa issues. After making 89 appearances for Burnley in recent Premier League and Championship seasons, the striker will offer offensive value and could be one of the most dangerous center-forwards in the Eastern Conference once he's ready to play. Until then, Duncan McGuire will be expected to lead the front line.

Joins Houston on loan Foster has joined Houston Dynamo on loan from Burnley through June 2027, with an option for a permanent transfer, according to the club.

Impact Foster brings extensive experience from English football to Houston after making 89 league appearances for Burnley across the Premier League and Championship. The South Africa international recorded three goals and two assists in 26 Premier League appearances last season and offers a combination of pace, physicality and ability to attack space behind defenses. The 25-year-old should immediately compete for a prominent role at center-forward as Houston strengthen their attack for the remainder of the MLS campaign.

Favored striker for national team Foster has been included in South Africa's World Cup squad and should be the first option to lead the front line throughout the competition.

Impact Foster could see meaningful action in the summer tournament despite coming off a relegation campaign with Burnley, for which he scored three goals and provided three assists over 27 games played in all competitions. His sharp movement and end product in the final third have translated well to the international level, with the striker racking up four goals and three assists in nine official matches for South Africa since 2025. Foster is capable of creating chances for himself and others near the opposing goal, though he'll likely need to be clinical given that South Africa may struggle to control matches against stronger sides. He could also share penalty taking duties with Oswin Appollis if given the opportunity.

Impact Foster has played mostly as a substitute lately and recorded 90 minutes only in an FA Cup matchup on Feb. 14, so he might return to a backup role going forward. Thus, the South African will offer an alternative to either Zian Flemming in the No. 9 position or to Jaidon Anthony and Marcus Edwards on the wings. Foster has scored three goals and delivered one assist across 19 matches played in the current Premier League campaign.

On bench Wednesday Foster (not injury related) is on the bench for Wednesday's matchup against Manchester United.

Impact Foster will be a strong candidate to replace either Hannibal or Marcus Edwards on the wings in his comeback from international duty. Foster was heavily involved for South Africa in the AFCON, scoring twice and delivering two assists in four games, which is a much better production than the two goals and one assist he has achieved in 13 club matches.

Impact Foster was off at AFCON but is already returned to his club after being eliminated, as the forward could now play Wednesday. However, this will likely depend on his fitness and how much he can play just after the competition and flight back to England, a lot for the body to go through in just a few weeks. He is their typical starter at forward when fit this season, so his return is positive, starting in 11 of his 13 appearances this season to go along with two goals and one assist.
