USMNT player ratings: How did the Americans stack up against Mexico in the 1-1 draw?
The USMNT battled to a 1-1 draw with Mexico in the Azteca Stadium, in a rivalry match that had just about everything you'd want from a meeting of this magnitude. Coming off a vibrant win against Trinidad and Tobago, the U.S. put in another energetic performance, but how did they stack up on an individual basis?
Brad Guzan - 5.5
The goalkeeper position is still wide open for the USMNT. Brad Guzan got the nod against Mexico, but it wasn't a performance to inspire much confidence from the 32-year-old. The Atlanta United 'keeper wasn't troubled too often on the night, but he was beaten too easily on his near post for Mexico's goal.
Omar Gonzalez - 8
Gonzalez was immense. He won header after header for 90 minutes, and he completely neutralized Chicharito, tracking his runs superbly all night and frustrating the Bayer Leverkusen striker throughout. You couldn't ask for too much more.
Geoff Cameron - 8.5
At the heart of the USMNT's shifting three-man/five-man back line, Geoff Cameron was an absolute monster. He made clearance after clearance, he was solid in possession, and he marshaled the defense fantastically. You'd be hard pressed to find anything he did wrong in the Azteca.
Tim Ream - 7.5
Tim Ream did his job quietly but confidently on the night. An early misstep nearly gifted Chicharito a goal in the first half, but aside from that gaffe, he was just about flawless. A solid showing all around.
DeAndre Yedlin - 6.5
Yedlin was pinned back more than he's used to on the night, but dealt with the threat of Jesus Gallardo decently well. He needed every bit of his pace and quickness to keep up with the Pumas winger, but stuck to the task relatively well.
DaMarcus Beasley - 6.5
Beasley was tasked with tracking a kid 14 years his junior, and did well to keep the exciting Hirving Lozano from causing too much damage. He didn't contribute much on the attacking end, but did his job on the day.
Michael Bradley - 8
Captain fantastic. Michael Bradley put in a strong all-around performance on the night, and his perfectly weighted chip to open the scoring was one that will go down in USMNT history. He nearly grabbed the winner for the US as well to cap off a phenomenal night for the 29-year-old.
Kellyn Acosta - 7
Bruce Arena threw 21-year-old Kellyn Acosta into the Azteca cauldron and he performed like a veteran under pressure. He was calm on the ball, worked hard defensively, and showed exactly why he's so highly regarded as a player for the future. He was caught out in the build-up for Mexico's goal, but otherwise put in an extremely solid performance.
Paul Arriola - 6
Paul Arriola worked his socks off down the wing for the USMNT, but didn't have much impact on the proceedings aside from helping to track the runs of Jesus Gallardo down the U.S.'s right side.
Bobby Wood - 6.5
A completely selfless showing from the Hamburg striker. Wood didn't have many opportunities in front of goal and fluffed an early chance, but he ran himself into the ground both on the defensive and offensive sides of the ball. It's a wonder he was able to walk off the pitch when Jozy Altidore gave him a much-deserved rest in the 79th minute.
Christian Pulisic - 6
It just wasn't Christian Pulisic's day. Mexico committed two, three, even four players at a time to keep him from affecting proceedings, and it worked. He wasn't able to find a rhythm and often looked isolated on the left of Bruce Arena's novel 3-4-3 formation. He was far from awful, but it just wasn't to be against Mexico.
Jozy Altidore - N/A
Came on late for Bobby Wood and threw his weight around.
Darlington Nagbe - 6.5
Given around 30 minutes to do his thing, Nagbe was a positive influence after coming on for Paul Arriola. Tidy in possession, inventive and a hard worker, he made a solid impact.
Graham Zusi - N/A
Zusi barely got to breathe the Azteca air before the final whistle blew.
