Ovechkin has struggled to score this season -- he has four goals, two of which have gone into the empty net. Still, he has 11 points in 13 games, which leads the Caps.

Impact Both points came in the first period, as Aube-Kubel opened the scoring midway through the frame with a one-timer from the faceoff dot to the left of Vitek Vanecek -- a goal that chased the Devils netminder from the game. Aube-Kubel was making his season debut after being promoted from AHL Hershey earlier in the day, but he's never been a big offensive threat. The 27-year-old had only four goals and 12 points in 53 games last season split between the Caps and Leafs, and he had just one goal and three points in 11 games for Hershey prior to his recall.

Impact The 31-year-old converted a virtual tap-in early in the second period after a great display of hustle from Tom Wilson, who chipped the puck out of Washington's zone and out-raced New Jersey defenders to collect it and create the scoring chance. That gave the Caps a 3-0 lead, and Kuznetsov then squelched the Devils' comeback attempt with an empty-netter. Through 12 games this season, he's produced three goals and seven points -- a pace that would see him fall short of 50 points over a full season for the first time since 2014-15, his first full campaign in the NHL.

Charlie Lindgren - Wins second straight start Lindgren made 24 saves in Friday's 4-2 win over the Devils.

Impact The 29-year-old netminder took a shutout, and a 3-0 lead, into the third period, and while he lost the clean sheet on a Timo Meier tally after he couldn't handle the rebound on a shot from Michael McLeod, Lindgren held on to record the victory. With Darcy Kuemper apparently needing a bit of a break -- coach Spencer Carbery said before Friday's game that Kuemper was "a little nicked up", per Mike Morreale of NHL.com -- Lindgren has started two of the last three games and won them both, allowing only three goals on 61 shots.

Rasmus Sandin - Bouncing back offensively Sandin supplied an assist and four blocked shots in Friday's 4-2 win over the Devils.

Impact Sandin has two assists over the last three games, which qualifies as a sudden surge considering he was held without a point in all eight October contests. The Capitals are sending Sandin to the ice in the offensive zone 62.4 percent of the time, plus he's hanging onto a No. 2 power-play spot, so he may be able to keep it going offensively in the near term. Sandin also has 11 hits and 27 blocked shots through 12 games.
