Matthew Knies - On injured reserve Knies (upper body) was put on injured reserve Friday, retroactive to Nov. 20.
Impact Knies has eight goals and 12 points in 20 appearances in 2024-25. The Maple Leafs were already missing forwards Max Domi (lower body), Calle Jarnkrok (groin), David Kampf (lower body), Max Pacioretty (lower body), Ryan Reaves (suspension) and, of course, Auston Matthews (upper body), so Toronto is looking rather thin up front. Until some of those players start returning, Bobby McMann, Nicholas Robertson and Pontus Holmberg might be deployed regularly in a top-six capacity. Fraser Minten and Nikita Grebenkin also made their season and NHL debut, respectively, Wednesday and figure to be part of the third line until the Maple Leafs start getting healthy.

Impact Nylander earned his contract by racking up eight goals and four assists in 14 minor-league contests for AHL Toronto while on a minor-league-only deal. Selected by the Sabres with the eighth overall pick in the 2016 NHL Draft, the 26-year-old winger has failed to secure a long-term role at the NHL level, playing in just 121 NHL contests for Buffalo, Chicago, Pittsburgh and Columbus. Impact The Maple Leafs get a rare Saturday off as they do not play again until Sunday versus Utah. That will give Ekman-Larsson an extra day to get healthy. Ekman-Larsson has been a rock on the Toronto blue line and has chipped in with a goal and seven assists in 20 games. He is on a two-game point streak heading into action Sunday.
