Impact Dumba recently went eight straight games without a point, but he's popped off with a goal and five assists over his last two outings. Dumba is up to two goals, nine assists, 29 shots on net and 21 PIM in 17 AHL contests this season. He was waived after a poor start to the 2025-26 campaign at the NHL level, but Dumba could play his way into a call-up while Kris Letang (foot) and Jack St. Ivany (hand) are out.

Impact The helper was Karlsson's 700th career assist. The 35-year-old defenseman reached the 900-point mark earlier in January, so his march to 1,000 is on, a mark that only eight blueliners in NHL history have reached so far. The assist was Karlsson's first point in four contests since he returned from a lower-body injury. He's at 34 points, 100 shots on net, 42 blocked shots and a plus-3 rating over 48 appearances this season.

Impact Dewar has multiple points in three of his last six games, producing four goals, two assists, 10 shots, 19 hits and a plus-8 rating. The 26-year-old is still on the fourth line, but something has clicked for his trio with Blake Lizotte and Noel Acciari lately. Dewar has a career-high 23 points with 80 shots on net, 99 hits, 25 blocked shots and a plus-9 rating through 53 appearances.

Impact Lizotte has a pair of assists in three of the last six games, though he's added just four shots on net and a plus-4 rating in that span. The Penguins are getting valuable depth scoring out of the fourth-line trio of Lizotte flanked by Noel Acciari and Connor Dewar. Lizotte is now at 17 points, 42 shots on net, 36 hits, 23 blocked shots, 21 PIM and a plus-10 rating through 44 appearances, putting him on track to surpass his total of 20 points from 59 outings last season.

Impact Kindel's empty-netter ended up being important, as the Rangers scored twice after that goal to pull within one. This was Kindel's second career game-winner, and he's up to 12 goals, 25 points, 103 shots on net, 43 blocked shots and a minus-6 rating through 50 appearances. The 18-year-old ended January hot with four goals and an assist over his last three contests.

Tanner Howe - Loaned to AHL affiliate Howe (knee) was reassigned to AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Sunday.
Impact Howe underwent ACL reconstruction surgery last April and started the 2025-26 campaign on non-roster injured reserve. However, his demotion to the AHL indicates he is ready to resume playing. Howe had 18 goals and 46 points in 47 games between Regina and Calgary during the 2024-25 WHL regular season.

Impact After helping to set up Anthony Mantha's second tally of the game in the second period, Rakell gave the Pens a 4-1 lead just 80 seconds into the third as he flipped a rebound past Jonathan Quick. Rakell got onto the scoresheet in six of the final eight games in January, collecting four goals and seven points over that stretch, but Saturday's power-play goal was his first since Dec. 21.

Mantha has been streaky throughout his career, part of the reason why he's played for four different teams over the last three seasons, but he remains on track for career-best numbers in his first campaign with Pittsburgh, producing 19 goals and 40 points in 53 contests.

Impact The fourth-line grinder has only two multi-point performances on the season, but they're come in the last two games. Acciari is having a disappointing season for the most part -- after reaching triple digits in both hits and blocked shots in 2024-25, he has only 44 hits and 31 blocks in 40 games so far this season -- but he has chipped in six goals, 15 points and a plus-9 rating.

Impact The Penguins seemed to have the game well in hand, holding a 3-0 lead late in the second period and going ahead 5-1 before two minutes had elapsed in the third, but a wild finish saw the Rangers come storming back and even scoring twice on Skinner in the final 67 seconds. The 27-year-old netminder still came away with his fifth straight win, and over eight outings in January he went 7-1-0 with a sharp 2.13 GAA and .910 save percentage.
