Impact This is a good sign for Dal Colle in that he should return to the lineup very shortly. Coach Barry Trotz confirmed that he expects Dal Colle to play either Saturday or Sunday versus the Penguins. Which line Dal Colle will play on once he returns is still in doubt, especially if Cal Clutterbuck (undisclosed) can't play. Dal Colle could end up on the energy line with Matt Martin and Casey Cizikas.

Impact Clutterbuck had to leave the game Thursday versus the Bruins due to the injury and isn't expected to play Saturday against the Penguins. The Islanders haven't listed the exact nature of the injury or when they expect him to return, only stated that he received treatment for the injury Friday. The good news is that Clutterbuck is not expected to be out of the lineup long term, which is important as the Islanders were only a .500 team when he missed time last season.

Impact Greene was never expected to be an offensive force this season but rather to help bring along his defense partner, Noah Dobson. Greene only recorded his first point of the season Monday and it's not like an avalanche of points is expected in the near future. The Islanders need him to show Dobson the way to being a top pro. Dobson is the future for the Islanders as they hope he develops into a top-pair defender.

Snaps five-game goal drought Barzal scored a goal and added an assist in a 7-2 win over the Bruins on Thursday.

Impact The goal was a beauty. Barzal took a stretch pace from Nick Leddy and scored from the left circle on a 2-on-1 with Jordan Eberle. He then returned the favor, dishing to Eberle on a 2-on-1 in a third period flurry of goals. The goal snapped Barzal's five-game goal drought and they were his first points in five games. Barzal sits with 17 points, including seven goals, in 19 games this season. The Isles play a tight D-first game, so it's an accomplishment to score at near a point-per-game.

Backstops victory Varlamov made 34 saves Thursday in a 7-2 victory over Boston.

Impact The game was tight most of the way and was knotted 2-2 until the 5:41 mark of the third. Varlamov made several 10-bell saves and then his teammates rewarded him with five unanswered goals in the third period, four of which came in a just a 5:48 span. Varlamov has now won two straight games and has allowed two or fewer goals in four of his last six starts (4-2). He's a strong start, inhibited only by a defensive squad in front of him that doesn't score loads of goals. But that wasn't the case Thursday night.
