Brendan Smith - Scores goal Friday Smith found the back of the net in a 6-2 victory over Ottawa on Friday.
Impact Smith's marker came early in the third period to increase New Jersey's lead to 5-1. It was his first goal and third point in 27 contests this season. The 34-year-old defenseman is unlikely to pick up the pace offensively, but he is noteworthy in terms of hits and blocks with 42 and 32, respectively, in 2023-24.

Luke Hughes - Has three-point game Hughes collected a goal and two assists in a 6-2 victory over Ottawa on Friday.
Impact Hughes' older brother, Jack Hughes, also recorded a tally and two helpers, which makes it the first time a pair of siblings have each contributed at least three points for the same team in a single game since Henrik Sedin and Daniel Sedin last accomplished that feat Dec. 15, 2017, per the NHL. It's also the first time the 20-year-old defenseman recorded at least three points in an outing, though it is the fifth multi-point contest of his rookie campaign. His offensive production did stall with a seven-game scoring drought from Dec. 10-23, but he's supplied two goals and two assists over his last two contests and is up to six markers and 20 points in 34 appearances this year.

Jack Hughes - Provides three points vs. Senators Hughes supplied a goal and two assists in a 6-2 win over Ottawa on Friday.
Impact Hughes found the back of the net with the man advantage midway through the first period to tie the game at 1-1 and then registered an assist on Jesper Bratt's power-play goal late in the same frame. His second helper was on Tyler Toffoli's even-strength tally. Hughes has been held off the scoresheet just once over his last five contests, giving him a goal and six points over that stretch. Through 29 appearances this year, he's provided 15 goals and 43 points. Although the 22-year-old's current pace of 1.48 points per game is likely to dip a touch as the campaign wears on, he should continue to produce at an impressive rate as a member of New Jersey's top line and first power-play unit.

Impact Two of Bratt's points -- a goal and an assist -- came with the man advantage. He's up to 14 goals and 42 points in 34 outings this year, including 20 power-play points. He's in position to surpass his career high of 73 points and his special-teams success is the central reason for the 25-year-old's increased production -- going into this campaign, Bratt had never recorded more than 22 power-play points in a single season, but it seems he'll shatter that mark in 2023-24.

Nico Daws - Impressive in season debut Daws turned aside 25 of 27 shots in a 6-2 victory over Ottawa on Friday.
Impact Daws was making his NHL season debut after posting a 2.39 GAA and a .929 save percentage through three contests with AHL Utica this season. He's getting this opportunity because Akira Schmid has struggled to the point where he was reassigned to Utica on Thursday. Vitek Vanecek remains with New Jersey, but he's done poorly as well, posting a 3.26 GAA and an .885 save percentage in 22 outings this year. If Daws can replicate his success against the Senators with any kind of consistency, then there might be an opening for him to snatch a meaningful role with the Devils.

Impact Daws is slated to make his first NHL appearance since suiting up for 25 games during the 2021-22 campaign. He's 10-11-1 with a 3.11 GAA and an .893 save percentage in his NHL career. In three AHL appearances this season, Daws stopped 91 of 98 shots he faced.

Curtis Lazar - Game-time decision Friday Lazar (soreness) is expected to be a game-time decision Friday in Ottawa, according to Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site.
Impact Lazar sat out Wednesday as he was banged up according to coach Lindy Ruff. Ruff said that he will see how Lazar is after the morning skate and that will determine whether or not he returns to the lineup Friday. Lazar has four goals, six assists, 16 PIM, 25 blocked shots and 57 hits this season in 30 contests.
