GAME LOG

Alexander Holtz - Two points in Friday's win Holtz produced a goal and an assist in Friday's 4-2 win over Chicago.
Impact He potted New Jersey's first goal of the game midway through the second period, then helped set up Michael McLeod for the game-winner in the third. Holtz has delivered back-to-back multi-point performances, but his spot on the third line and second power-play unit for the Devils limits his fantasy ceiling despite his talent. On the season, the seventh overall pick in the 2020 NHL Draft has nine goals and 19 points in 37 games.

Vitek Vanecek - Back in win column Friday Vanecek made 23 saves in Friday's 4-2 win over Chicago.
Impact He gave up a power-play goal in the first period and a shortie in the second, but Vanecek stood tall in the third as the Devils took control of the game. The 27-year-old netminder has gone 6-2-1 in nine starts since the beginning of November thanks to solid offensive support, but his 2.99 GAA and .892 save percentage during that stretch have kept New Jersey in the market for an upgrade in the crease.

Simon Nemec - Teases upside in victory Nemec skated to a plus-3 rating to complement a goal. an assist, and three blocked shots in Friday's 4-2 win over the Blackhawks.
Impact This figures to be the first of many multi-point games for Nemec, whom the Devils selected with the second overall pick in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft. The Devils are putting a lot of faith in the 19-year-old by planting the defenseman on the top pair and having him work on the No. 2 power-play unit, though the lofty assignment has a lot to do with Dougie Hamilton being out long-term with a pectoral injury. Nonetheless, Nemec is holding down the fort based on two goals, five assists, and 34 blocked shots through 16 games.

Chris Tierney - Secures helper in win Tierney supplied an assist in Friday's 4-2 win over the Blackhawks.
Impact Tierney slid the puck to Simon Nemec in the neutral zone, and the rookie defenseman lasered a shot past Arvid Soderblom for a game-tying goal in the third period. The Devils have five forwards currently dealing with injuries, including Jack Hughes' undisclosed issue stemming from Friday's contest, so we figure that Tierney will at least maintain his spot on the fourth line in the short term. Unfortunately, he has just two assists representing his point total through 17 games.
JANUARY 6, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Tyler Toffoli - Banks team-leading 16th goal Toffoli found the back of the net in Friday's 4-2 win over the Blackhawks.
Impact Toffoli had points in just three of 13 games in December, but he's still leading the Devils in goals with 16 of them through 37 games. The top-line winger also has 12 assists to help him maintain a relatively high floor in fantasy hockey, yet a rather discouraging trend is that Toffoli hasn't potted a goal on the man advantage since Nov. 30, a 4-3 overtime win over the Flyers. While his enigmatic ways can be frustrating at times, Toffili remains a set-and-forget starting option in most fantasy leagues.

Jack Hughes - Suffers injury Friday Hughes (undisclosed) left early during Friday's win over Chicago, Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site reports.
Impact Hughes had two shots on goal and a minus-1 rating in 21:24 of ice time before exiting the contest. There was no update on his status after the game. The star center has racked up 15 goals and 45 points through 32 games this season. New Jersey will immediately be back in action Saturday against the Canucks.

Vitek Vanecek - Gets starting nod Vanecek will be between the pipes at home against the Blackhawks on Friday, per NHL.com.
Impact Vanecek is sporting a 3.40 GAA and 2-2-1 record over his last five outings, a far cry from the start of the season when he went 6-2-0 through his opening eight appearances. Despite his recent slump, the backstop is unlikely to lose the starting job to Nico Daws or AHL netminder Keith Kinkaid.

Dougie Hamilton - Not close to return Coach Lindy Ruff said Friday that "Dougie (Hamilton) is a long ways away with what he had." Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site reports.
Impact Hamilton had surgery Dec. 1 for a torn pectoral muscle and likely is out for another 3-4 months. The defenseman had five goals and 16 points in 20 games before his injury, including four goals and eight points on the power play. Hamilton is iffy at best to return before the end of the season, but could be back for some playoff action, depending on how deep a run the Devils are able to make.
JANUARY 5, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Tomas Nosek - Still not skating Nosek has yet to begin skating after undergoing foot surgery in late November, Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site reports.
Impact Coach Lindy Ruff said Friday that "(Nosek's) closer, but he's not in a situation to start skating yet." Nosek has nary a point in six NHL games this season, his first with New Jersey.
