Stefan Noesen - Bends twine Friday
Noesen scored the opening goal of the NHL season in a 4-1 victory over Buffalo on Friday.
Impact
Noesen found the back of the net on his only shot of the night. While perhaps not as prolific of a scorer as some of his better-known teammates, Noesen's quality reached the 35-point mark in each of the last two seasons -- numbers that were bolstered by his power-play production. If he can maintain a spot with the No. 2 unit, there's no reason to think Noesen can't produce at similar levels in 2024-25.

Nico Hischier - Scores goal Opening Night
Hischier scored a goal on four shots in Friday's 4-1 Opening Night victory against Buffalo.
Impact
Hischier has reached the 60-point threshold in each of his previous three campaigns and looks poised to do more of the same in 2024-25. Given his role with the No. 1 power-play unit, the Swiss center should be capable of getting back over the 30-goal mark this year after coming just three tallies shy last season.

Nathan Bastian - bags two apples Friday
Bastian recorded a pair of assists in a 4-1 win versus the Sabres on Friday.
Impact
Bastian was limited to just 54 regular-season games for the Devils last year, logging just 12 points along the way. Even with his strong performance in the season opener, the 26-year-old winger's ceiling likely remains in the 20-25 point range, in part due to his bottom-six role. If he were to force his way into more responsibilities, including a power-play assignment, perhaps Bastian could push for a higher point total.

Paul Cotter - Two points in win
Cotter scored an empty-net goal and picked up an assist in a 4-1 victory over Buffalo on Friday.
Impact
Cotter was part of a three-player deal between the Devils and Golden Knights back in June but impressed in his New Jersey debut. Despite a fourth-line role that came with just 10:13 of ice time, the Michigan-born winger still managed to pick up two points and seal the game with his empty-net tally.

Johnathan Kovacevic - Scores goal, assist
Kovacevic scored a goal on one shot and registered an assist in Friday's 3-1 victory over New Jersey.
Impact
Kovacevic is already paying dividends for the Devils after they traded a fourth-round pick to Montreal for the defenseman back in June. While fantasy players probably shouldn't be expecting over a point per game out of the 27-year-old blueliner, he could challenge for the 20-point threshold this year after having previously topped out at 15 points back in 2022-23.

ROTOWIRE
Jacob Markstrom - Dominant in debut
Markstrom stopped 30 of 31 shots faced in Friday's 4-1 win over the Sabres.
Impact
Markstrom's lone slip-up was a power-play goal scored by Owen Power in the third period. Overall, it was a solid debut for the veteran backstop and puts him on the path to get back over the 30-win threshold for just the second time in his NHL career. With the two teams back at it Saturday, Jake Allen figures to get the starting nod while Markstrom should be in line to feature in the home opener versus Toronto on Oct. 10.
