Impact Koskinen saw action in 38 games last year in which he posted an 18-13-3 record with a .917 save percentage and one shutout. Not exactly a standout performance, it was still enough to earn the netminder the starting job over veteran Mike Smith for Opening Night.

Outmatched in Game 4 Koskinen surrendered three goals on 29 shots in Friday's 3-2 loss to the Blackhawks in Game 4.

Impact Koskinen was outplayed by the Blackhawks' Corey Crawford, who stopped 43 of 45 shots for the win. In four games versus the Blackhawks, Koskinen posted an .886 save percentage, compared to his .917 mark during the regular season. Poor series aside, Koskinen should once again challenge for a strong share of the starts in 2020-21.

Unlucky in Game 3 loss Koskinen gave up four goals on 25 shots in a 4-3 loss to the Blackhawks in Wednesday's Game 3.

Impact It could have been worse for Koskinen -- the Blackhawks rung iron five times in the contest. However, three of the four goals against Koskinen featured redirections of some sort. Luck was not on the Finn's side Wednesday, and it's unclear if he'll get a shot at redemption in Game 4 on Friday.

Impact Through the first two contests, Koskinen registered 41 saves on 45 shots and picked up the win in Game 2. Considering he was able to get the team back in the win column, it shouldn't come as a surprise to see him tending the twine again for Game 3.

Impact It was another high-scoring battle between these two teams, but Koskinen was able to do enough to keep the Oilers ahead, with the help of a Connor McDavid hat trick. Koskinen has allowed four goals on 45 shots in the equivalent of one-and-a-half games, but it's hard to imagine head coach Dave Tippett going back to Mike Smith for Wednesday's Game 3 clash.

Impact Koskinen came into Game 1 in relief of Mike Smith on Saturday and stopped 18 of 19 shots. Now the 31-year-old Finn will get the starting nod from the onset. With the firepower in front of him courtesy of Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, the netminder doesn't need to be perfect, just better than the 11.54 GAA that Smith posted in limited action.

Sharp in relief Koskinen made 18 saves in relief Saturday in a 6-4 loss to the Blackhawks in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Qualifiers. He allowed one goal.

Impact Mike Smith was shaky at best Saturday and gave up five before getting the hook. Koskinen looked just as good as he did in the regular season. So despite statements that the Oil will alternate both men in net, we can't help but think Koskinen is about to get the bulk of the ice. That is, unless he crumbles, too.

Set to split starts Coach Dave Tippett plans on using Koskinen and Mike Smith during the playoffs, Jack Michaels of the Oilers Radio Network reports.

Impact Koskinen's 2.75 GAA and .917 save percentage were significantly better than Smith's 2.95 GAA and .902 save percentage during the regular season, but Smith has far more NHL playoff experience than Koskinen, which likely factored into Tippett's decision to use both netminders during the postseason. At this point it remains to be seen which backstop will get the starting nod for Saturday's Game 1 against Chicago.
