Dishes helper Veleno registered an assist while logging 13:09 of ice time during Sunday's 4-2 win over the Capitals.

Impact Veleno finds himself on the top line alongside Dylan Larkin and Lucas Raymond and has paid instant dividends following the promotion. The 24-year-old's fantasy appeal could benefit from some exposure to the power play, but Veleno is worth a look in deeper leagues as long as he's enjoying such a prominent even-strength assignment.

Impact Veleno went from nothing on offense for well over a month to a three-game point streak in the span of a week. He has two goals and an assist during his recent bounce-back on offense. Veleno will have to prove himself over a longer stretch, and that may still not be enough for him to earn fantasy interest since he's firmly in a bottom-six role.

Impact Veleno has been scratched four times in that span, but he's playing more often than not. The 24-year-old is at two points, 20 shots on net, 37 hits, 17 blocked shots and a minus-6 rating through 25 outings this season, a drastic drop-off compared to the career-high 28 points he amassed in 2023-24. Veleno is also averaging a career-low 11:01 of ice time in 2024-25.

First goal of season Wednesday Veleno scored a goal in Wednesday's 4-1 win over the Blackhawks.

Impact Veleno deflected a shot from Moritz Seider, and his own deflected ricocheted off a Blackhawks player before getting past Petr Mrazek for Detroit's third goal early in the third period. This was Veleno's first goal and second point of the season, so he won't deliver a lot of fantasy production in most formats. He's been putting up solid numbers in other categories, though, as he's racked up 19 hits and nine blocked shots in his 12 contests. Ultimately, though, the lack of scoring can't be overlooked, so fantasy managers would be wise looking at other options in the waiver wire.

Inks two-year deal Veleno signed a two-year, $5.5 million contract with the Red Wings on Friday, per Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet.

Impact Veleno was a restricted free agent coming off a one-year, $825,000 contract. He had 12 goals and 28 points in 80 contests last season. The 24-year-old is likely to start the 2024-25 campaign in a bottom-six role, but he does have some upside.

Impact Veleno established new career highs for goals and helpers, but that should be taken with a grain of salt, as this was just his fourth year in the league, including a five-game sample in the 2020-21 campaign. When Veleno was drafted in the first round (No. 30 overall) in 2018, the consensus thought among hockey pundits was that the skilled forward would rapidly evolve into a top-six skater with heavy utilization on the power play, but that hasn't materialized. Veleno took a pay cut ahead of last season and ended up with a one-year, $825,000 contract to remain with the Wings. The 24-year-old is set to become a restricted free agent after showing modest improvement this season.
