Returned to AHL Skarek was reassigned to AHL San Jose on Friday.
Impact Skarek was recalled Thursday to back up Jaroslav Askarov, as Alex Nedeljkovic (personal) was placed on non-roster injured reserve. Nedeljkovic was activated in a corresponding move.
NOVEMBER 14, 2025 • ROTOWIRE
Recalled by Sharks Skarek was called up from AHL San Jose on Thursday, Curtis Pashelka of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
Impact Skarek will back up Yaroslav Askarov as Alex Nedeljkovic was placed on non-roster injured reserve, due to a personal matter. Skarek was 4-2-0 with a 3.63 GAA and an .875 save percentage across six AHL appearances before his recall.
NOVEMBER 13, 2025 • ROTOWIRE
Shuts out Abbotsford Skarek posted a 27-save shutout in AHL San Jose's 7-0 win over Abbotsford on Tuesday.
Impact Skarek took advantage of a reeling opponent, and he received plenty of support to earn his first shutout of the season. Through six outings, Skarek has a 3.63 GAA and an .875 save percentage, though he has gone 4-2-0. This may have been a good time to make an impression -- Alex Nedeljkovic (personal) is away from the Sharks during their road trip, which likely means the big club will need to call up either Skarek or Gabriel Carriere. The latter has posted better numbers this season, but Skarek is more experience.
NOVEMBER 12, 2025 • ROTOWIRE
Returned to minors Skarek was reassigned to AHL San Jose on Saturday.
Impact Skarek was the backup netminder behind Alex Nedeljkovic in Friday's 4-1 preseason win over Vegas. The 25-year-old netminder passed through waivers Wednesday, and he will begin the 2025-26 campaign in the minors.
OCTOBER 4, 2025 • ROTOWIRE
Back in NHL Skarek was promoted from AHL San Jose on Friday.
Impact Skarek will likely serve as the No. 2 for one or both of the Sharks' final two preseason games against the Golden Knights and Mammoth on Friday and Saturday, respectively, but is unlikely to get the start for either game. Once the team starts gearing up for Opening Night versus Vegas on Thursday, look for Skarek to be shipped back down to AHL San Jose.
OCTOBER 3, 2025 • ROTOWIRE
Placed on waivers Tuesday Skarek was waived by the Sharks on Tuesday, James Mirtle of The Athletic reports.
Impact Skarek was not expected to start the year on the NHL roster after the team acquired Alex Nedeljkovic over the summer to serve as the No. 2 option behind Yaroslav Askarov. While Skarek was able to make his NHL debut last year, logging two games for the Islanders, he remains a long-term project for fantasy players -- one that may not pan out if he doesn't start getting opportunities soon.
SEPTEMBER 30, 2025 • ROTOWIRE
First off Monday Skarek was the first goalie off the ice during Monday's morning skate, Curtis Pashelka of The San Jose Mercury News reports, signaling that he's expected to get the road start duri...
Impact Skarek signed a one-year deal with the Sharks during the offseason, and he'll make his preseason debut Monday. However, it's not yet clear whether he'll play the whole game against the Ducks. Skarek made his NHL debut for the Islanders last year and will likely struggle to see much playing time for the Sharks behind Yaroslav Askarov and Alex Nedeljkovic this season.
SEPTEMBER 29, 2025 • ROTOWIRE
San Jose Sharks sign veteran AHL goalie to one-year contract San Jose Sharks add some insurance in net, signing Jakub Skarek to a one-year contract.
JULY 10, 2025 • MERCURYNEWS.COM
Agrees to one-year deal Skarek signed a one-year, $775,000 contract with the Sharks on Thursday.
Impact Skarek was expected to join HIFK of Finland's Liiga for the 2025-26 campaign, but it seems he decided to pursue a different opportunity. The goaltender had a 3.52 GAA and an .884 save percentage in 22 regular-season outings with AHL Bridgeport in 2024-25. He also appeared in two NHL games last season, recording a 3.94 GAA and an .872 save percentage with the Islanders. The 25-year-old will probably start 2025-26 in the minors, though he might get an opportunity to play at the top level if Yaroslav Askarov or Alex Nedeljkovic miss some time due to injury.
JULY 10, 2025 • ROTOWIRE
Heading to Finland Skarek signed a contract with HIFK of Finland's Liiga, Stefen Rosner of The Hockey News reports Friday.
Impact Skarek was set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer after posting a record of 0-1-0 with a 3.95 GAA and an .872 save percentage across two appearances with the Islanders this season. He also had a 3.52 GAA and an .884 save percentage in 22 outings with AHL Bridgeport in 2024-25. The 25-year-old was selected by the Islanders with the No. 72 overall pick in the 2018 NHL Draft, but he's struggled in the AHL, so Skarek will look for better results in Europe.
MAY 9, 2025 • ROTOWIRE
Returned to AHL Skarek was assigned to AHL Bridgeport on Sunday, Stefen Rosner of NHL.com reports.
Impact The Islanders activated Marcus Hogberg (upper body) from injured reserve in a corresponding move to occupy the backup role behind Ilya Sorokin. The 25-year-old Skarek has appeared in two NHL games this season, stopping 34 of 39 shots en route to a record of 0-1-0.
MARCH 9, 2025 • ROTOWIRE
Solid in relief duty Tuesday Skarek stopped all seven shots he faced in relief during Tuesday's 5-1 loss to the Rangers.
Impact Skarek looked solid between the pipes in the third period after replacing Ilya Sorokin, who allowed five goals on 11 shots before being replaced at the start of the third period. Skarek has made just two appearances (one start) this season, stopping 34 of 39 shots and posting a 3.95 GAA.
FEBRUARY 26, 2025 • ROTOWIRE
Concedes five goals in debut Skarek stopped 27 shots out of 32 total in Sunday's 6-3 road loss to the Panthers.
Impact Skarek allowed two goals in each of Sunday's three periods, including two goals in just over the last two minutes of the second frame. The 25-year-old moves to 0-1-0 on the season with a .844 save percentage and a 5.00 GAA after making his NHL debut. In terms of a first performance, Skarek should hold his head high knowing he made 27 saves on the defending champions. In terms of fantasy, however, a larger sample size is necessary before Skarek can become fantasy-relevant. For now, it is best to look elsewhere for goaltending options.

FLA 6 vs NYI 3: Jakub Skarek | New York Islanders Jakub Skarek addressed the media following the Islanders 6-3 loss against the Florida Panthers.
FEBRUARY 3, 2025 • NHL.COM
Set to start Sunday Skarek will start Sunday on the road versus the Panthers, Stefen Rosner of NHL.com reports.
Impact Skarek will get the second half of a back-to-back after Ilya Sorokin took a 3-2 overtime win over the Lightning on Saturday. Sunday's start will be Skarek's first career NHL appearance, and it comes against the defending champions, who won a 5-1 game over the Panthers on Saturday. Skarek should be faded by fantasy managers Sunday given his inexperience and the difficulty of the opponent.
FEBRUARY 2, 2025 • ROTOWIRE
Brought up from AHL Skarek was recalled from AHL Bridgeport on Monday.
Impact The Islanders moved Marcus Hogberg (upper body) to injured reserve in a corresponding move. Skarek has a 5-11-1 record with a 3.22 GAA and an .895 save percentage in 20 minor-league appearances this season. With the Islanders set to play four times in six days, here's a chance Skarek could make his NHL debut if Hogberg and Semyon Varlamov (lower body) remain unavailable. However, Ilya Sorokin will handle most of the starts.
JANUARY 27, 2025 • ROTOWIRE
Shipped back to minors Skarek was returned to AHL Bridgeport on Monday, per Stefen Rosner of NHL.com.
Impact Skarek didn't suit up against Utah on Saturday, serving as the No. 2 option behind Marcus Hogberg while Ilya Sorokin (illness) was unavailable. The decision to return Skarek to the minors should be an indication that Sorokin will at least be healthy enough to fill the backup role when the Islanders face off with the Senators on Tuesday.
JANUARY 13, 2025 • ROTOWIRE
Recalled Saturday Skarek was recalled from AHL Bridgeport on Saturday.
Impact Skarek was recalled as the Islanders' emergency goaltender with Ilya Sorokin (illness) unavailable. Skarek, who's yet to make his NHL debut, figures to backup Marcus Hoberg on Saturday in Utah.
JANUARY 11, 2025 • ROTOWIRE
Lands on waivers Skarek hit the waiver wire Sunday, according to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet.
Impact Skarek was a third-round draft pick by the Islanders in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft. The 24-year-old is unlikely to be claimed on waivers -- he has yet to post a save percentage above .900 or a GAA below 3.00 in his five years of AHL experience. Skarek went 7-22-6 with an .888 save percentage and a 3.23 GAA in 36 regular-season appearances with AHL Bridgeport in 2023-24.
OCTOBER 6, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Promoted from AHL Skarek was recalled from AHL Bridgeport on Friday, per CapFriendly.
Impact Skarek posted a lackluster 3.23 GAA and .888 save percentage in 36 AHL contests. The 24-year-old has yet to make his NHL debut.
APRIL 20, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Waived by Islanders The Islanders placed Skarek on waivers Friday, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.
Impact Skarek had a 3.37 GAA and an .892 save percentage in 38 AHL contests with Bridgeport in 2022-23. The 23-year-old hasn't made his NHL debut yet.
OCTOBER 6, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Agrees to two-year deal Skarek inked a two-year, two-way contract with the Islanders on Tuesday.
Impact Skarek posted a 15-16-3 record with a 3.37 GAA and an .892 save percentage in 38 games for AHL Bridgeport last season. The 23-year-old netminder will likely begin the 2023-24 campaign in the minors.

Impact Skarek posted a 15-16-3 record in the minors this season with a 3.37 GAA and an .892 save percentage in 38 appearances. He will serve as the third goaltender for the Islanders in the postseason behind Ilya Sorokin and Semyon Varlamov.
