Out indefinitely Melanson's upper-body injury was diagnosed Saturday as an anterior mediastinum hematoma with vascular pseudo aneurysm. He will continue to be evaluated and is out indefinitely.

Impact The Kraken said that there would be a "gradual progression to return to hockey," so Melanson shouldn't be expected to play for a while. The 23-year-old suffered the injury in Seattle's Season Opener against Calgary on Oct. 1. Melanson had two goals and five points in 36 regular-season outings with the Kraken in 2025-26.

Impact Melanson was a restricted free agent during the offseason, but he'll remain with the Kraken after reaching an agreement a few weeks before the start of training camp. After making a lone regular-season appearance during the 2024-25 campaign, Melanson appeared in 36 regular-season games with the Kraken last year and recorded two goals, three assists, 189 hits, 32 PIM and 13 blocked shots while averaging 9:22 of ice time.

Impact Melanson has seen action in just 28 AHL games this season, but he's still managed a career-best nine goals and 19 points. The forward also had five points over 36 NHL contests for the Kraken. Melanson will likely get a chance to compete for a full-time job in Seattle during training camp.

The 22-year-old Melanson has two goals, three assists, 33 shots on net and 189 hits in 36 NHL outings this season. He also has seven goals and 16 points in 26 AHL appearances this campaign.

Impact Melanson has been with the Kraken since Jan. 22, but he had been held off the scoresheet over his first 11 games in this stint on the NHL roster, as well as the last four contests in his previous stint. The 22-year-old forward is up to two goals, five points, 149 hits, 24 shots on net and 23 PIM through 27 appearances this season. He played well enough to make Tye Kartye expendable, which the Rangers capitalized on with a waiver claim. Melanson will likely get fourth-line minutes to close out the campaign, though he could be a healthy scratch occasionally.
