Dealt to Columbus Severson signed an eight-year, $50-million contract and was traded to Columbus for a third-round pick Friday, TSN's Chris Johnston reports.

Impact The only way Severson was getting an eighth year on his contract was if the Devils signed him. The defenseman is the second blueliner in the last three days to be traded to the Blue Jackets as Ivan Provorov was dealt Tuesday. Severson had seven goals and 26 assists in 81 regular-season games with New Jersey in 2022-23.

Continues to shine Severson registered an assist in Friday's 5-4 loss to the Sabres.

Impact Severson was the secondary distributor on the Devils' first goal; a little chip shot from Yegor Sharangovich. The 28-year-old Severson has been a model for consistency, as he's compiled two goals, eight assists and a plus-6 rating through 13 games this month, and he missed the scoresheet in just four of those contests.

One of each in overtime win Severson scored a power-play goal on two shots, added an assist and blocked two shots in Sunday's 5-4 overtime win over the Coyotes.

Impact Severson set up a Jesper Boqvist goal late in the first period before scoring one of his own in the second. This was Severson's first multi-point effort since Jan. 13, when he had three assists against the lowly Ducks. The defenseman isn't anywhere near the pace he showed in producing 46 points over 80 contests a year ago -- he has five tallies, 16 helpers, 79 shots on net, 85 blocks and a plus-6 rating through 61 outings in 2022-23.

Tacks on helper Severson registered an assist and three blocked shots in Monday's 5-4 overtime win over the Canucks.

Impact Seventy-five percent of Severson's points have come in wins this season, but with only four goals and 12 assists total, the defenseman will be hard-pressed to come near the career-high 46 points that he set with New Jersey last season. He is, however, consistently adding value in the defensive zone with 71 blocked shots through 49 games.
