Charlie Lindgren | March 3 | Washington Capitals
Charlie Lindgren on his 3-year contract extension
MARCH 3

Inks three-year deal
Lindgren secured a three-year, $9 million contract from the Capitals on Monday.
Impact
Lindgren's deal follows the Caps' decision to re-sign fellow backstop Logan Thompson to a six-year, $35.1 million back in January, locking up their netminding duo for the foreseeable future. While Lindgren was seeing an even share of the duties for much of the year, he only played in three of the Caps' eight February contests. Still, Lindgren should continue to see plenty of work down the stretch, even if he has fallen behind Thompson in the pecking order.

Subpar outing Thursday
Lindgren stopped 14 of 18 shots in Thursday's 5-2 loss to the Blues. The fifth goal was an empty-netter with 1:55 left in the third period.
Impact
Lindgren had won his previous two starts, but he never got it going Thursday and suffered his first loss in regulation since Jan. 25, when he stopped 23 of 25 shots in a 2-1 loss to the Canucks. Lindgren has been rotating between the pipes with Logan Thompson and has posted a 3-2-1 record with a 2.84 GAA and a .884 save percentage across his last six outings. He should continue to see a decent amount of opportunities between the posts going forward.

Leaves ice first
Lindgren was the first goalie to exit the ice Thursday, Bailey Johnson of The Washington Post reports, indicating he'll be between the pipes at home versus the Blues.
Impact
Lindgren is undefeated in regulation over his last three outings, posting a 2-0-1 record to go with a 3.64 GAA. Despite his strong run of form, the 31-year-old netminder has found himself playing second fiddle behind Logan Thompson, who has been seeing the bulk of the starts of late. Still, Lindgren should see more opportunities than most No. 2 goalies in the league.

Triumphant Against Edmonton
Lindgren stopped 22 of 25 shots faced during Sunday's 7-3 home win over the Oilers.
Impact
Lindgren was buoyed by another 7-plus goal effort by the Capitals, including a hat trick from Alex Ovechkin. The 31-year-old improves to a 2.63 GAA and .900 save percentage behind a 13-9-3record in 26 starts and is likely to be in action when the Capitals face the Blues on Thursday.

Lindgren will guard the road crease Sunday against the Oilers, Stephen Whyno of the Associated Press reports.
Impact
Lindgren will get the nod Sunday in the second leg of a back-to-back after Logan Thompson started Saturday's win over the Penguins. The 31-year-old Lindgren is 12-9-3 with a .900 save percentage and 2.63 GAA this season.

Grounds Flyers with strong effort
Lindgren notched a win Thursday with a 19-save performance against the Flyers. The final score was 4-3.
Impact
Lindgren was sharp, handing the Flyers their seventh loss in eight games. He was beaten twice by Matvei Michkov, and Tyson Foerster put a power-play snipe past him. Lindgren is 2-1-1 with one shutout, 10 goals allowed and a .903 save percentage in four starts since his upper-body injury. He and Logan Thompson have been time-sharing starts since his return from injury, and that will likely continue even with Thompson's recent contract extension (six years, $35.1 million with a $5.85 AAV).

Starting against Philadelphia
Lindgren will start on the road against the Flyers on Thursday, Bailey Johnson of The Washington Post reports.
Impact
Lindgren was inconsistent to close out January, as he picked up his first shutout win of the season on the road against the Kraken on Jan. 23 before settling for losses in each of his last two appearances. Across those two outings -- which came against the Canucks and Senators -- he went 0-1-1 with a 3.49 GAA and .881 save percentage. He didn't appear in either of the Capitals' last two games but will have a somewhat favorable matchup against the Flyers, who rank 23rd in the league with 2.78 goals per game.

Saddled with loss
Lindgren turned aside 30 of 34 shots faced during Thursday's 5-4 overtime loss to the Senators.
Impact
Lindgren kept the Capitals in it long enough to force the overtime frame, but was hung out to dry on Thomas Chabot's overtime-winning tally. With Washington employing a fairly rigid split in netminding assignments between Lindgren and Logan Thompson, the 31-year-old is likely to find himself next in action on Feb. 4 against the Panthers.
