Jordan Staal - Gets assist in second game back Staal posted an assist, two shots on goal and two hits in Thursday's 5-4 shootout loss to the Capitals.
Impact Staal has been back for two games since he missed four contests due to a lower-body injury. He's back in his usual third-line role, so expect Staal to see heavily defensive assignments to close out the regular season unless head coach Rod Brind'Amour wants to rest him. Staal has produced 34 points, 102 shots on net, 131 hits and a plus-14 rating over 73 outings this season, right in line with his level of production over the last seven years.

Andrei Svechnikov - First helper since return Svechnikov notched an assist, four hits, two blocked shots and a plus-2 rating in Thursday's 5-4 shootout loss to the Capitals.
Impact Svechnikov has battled injuries recently but still has three points over his last five outings. If the injury issue crops up again, don't be surprised to see Svechnikov rest before the end of the regular season -- the Hurricanes are locked into a first-round matchup versus the Devils to begin the playoffs. Svechnikov has managed 46 points, 172 shots on net, 142 hits, 57 PIM and a minus-6 rating through 68 contests this season.

Brent Burns - Collects two assists Thursday Burns recorded two assists, two PIM and a plus-2 rating in Thursday's 5-4 shootout loss to the Capitals.
Impact This was Burns' first multi-point effort since Jan. 15 versus the Sabres. He helped out on third-period goals by Jordan Martinook and Seth Jarvis as the Hurricanes dug out of a 4-2 hole to force overtime. Burns is up to 28 points, 172 shots on net, 97 blocked shots and a plus-8 rating over 78 appearances this season, so he's still at risk of falling short of the 30-point mark for the second time in five years.

Alexander Alexeyev - Back in press box since loan Alexeyev has not played in the 16 games since he returned from his conditioning loan with AHL Hershey on March 6.
Impact Alexeyev could have had a chance to play Thursday versus the Hurricanes when left-shot defenseman Jakob Chychrun (illness) was out, but the right-handed Dylan McIlrath drew in instead. This paints a clear picture that Alexeyev is eighth on the depth chart on defense, so it would take at least two absences to the Capitals' regular blueliners to get him in the lineup. He hasn't played an NHL game since Nov. 8.

Brandon Duhaime - Sends assist Duhaime logged an assist, two shots on goal, two hits, two blocked shots and five PIM in Thursday's 5-4 shootout win over the Hurricanes.
Impact Duhaime has chipped in four points over his last 10 outings. The 27-year-old forward continues to play in a fourth-line role, bringing plenty of grit to the lineup. He's also had a career year on offense with nine goals, 12 assists and 80 shots on net over 78 appearances. Duhaime has added 96 PIM, 153 hits, 60 blocked shots and a plus-6 rating.
