Set for extended absence Head coach Craig Berube said Tuesday that Carlo (lower body) will miss extended time, per Mark Masters of TSN.
Impact According to Luke Fox of Sportsnet, Berube also relayed that Carlo will probably need surgery to address his lower-body issue. The right-shot blueliner hasn't been in the lineup since Nov. 13, and he'll now be unavailable for the foreseeable future. Troy Stecher should play more regularly due to Carlo's absence.

Impact Carlo has already missed the Maple Leafs' last seven outings and appeared to be trending in the right direction. Instead, the blueliner remains on injured reserve and seems likely to miss additional games. With just two points, both assists, in 18 outings this year, the Colorado native's continued absence is unlikely to impact the majority of fantasy managers.

Carlo sat out Saturday's 3-2 loss to Chicago and will miss at least two more games, starting with Tuesday's matchup against St. Louis, after landing on the IR list. He has collected two assists, 23 shots on goal, 34 blocked shots and 12 hits through 18 appearances this season.

Impact Carlo earned his first point of the season with the helper. The 28-year-old defenseman has occupied a shutdown role in the top four, which fits his skill set and usual deployment. He's supplied 11 shots on net, five hits, eight blocked shots, four PIM and an even plus-minus rating through eight outings this season. Carlo has never recorded a 20-point campaign, so he's not a particularly interesting blueliner in fantasy.
