INJURIES

Status in question for Monday Smith (shoulder) is listed as questionable for Monday's game against the Dolphins.
Impact Since missing the first five games of the season due to a hamstring issue, Smith has been a regular target of Saints quarterbacks over the last nine contests. Having that said, he's topped out at five catches, eight targets, 64 yards and one TD in any given contest. Smith was limited in practice all week, so he at least has a chance to extend his streak to 10 straight appearances.

Limited in practice again Smith (shoulder) was a limited participant in Friday's practice, Adam Caplan of SiriusXM NFL Radio reports.
Impact Smith may be able to play, but between his recent lack of production and the Saints' COVID-19 outbreak, he doesn't hold a ton of fantasy appeal ahead of the Monday night matchup with Miami. Even if his shoulder turns out to be a non-issue, Smith may have to catch passes from third-string quarterback Ian Book.

Opens week as limited participant Smith was listed as a limited participant on Thursday's estimated practice report due to a shoulder injury, Amie Just of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.
Impact Due to a team-wide COVID-19 outbreak that resulted in nine players landing on the reserve/COVID-19 list Thursday, New Orleans opted not to hold a traditional practice as it begins Week 16 prep. If the team had held a workout, Smith's reps would have been capped due to the shoulder issue, but the Saints haven't provided any indication that the injury will jeopardize his availability for Monday's game against the Dolphins. Assuming he's cleared to play this week, Smith won't have a rosy fantasy outlook. In addition to potentially being shadowed by three-time Pro Bowl cornerback Xavien Howard, Smith will likely be working with third-string quarterback Ian Book, who is expected to make his NFL debut Monday with both Taysom Hill (illness) and Trevor Siemian (illness) unlikely to be activated from the reserve/COVID-19 list.

Three targets against Bucs Smith caught two of three targets for 17 yards during Sunday's 9-0 win over the Buccaneers.
Impact Smith watched as Marquez Callaway led the way with six catches on nine targets for 112 yards. While the absence of Deonte Harris (suspension) brought the possibility that Smith could be used more down the field, that hasn't materialized through two weeks. While Harris is set to miss one more game, Smith is not much of a fantasy option entering a Week 16 matchup with Miami.
DECEMBER 21, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Three catches against Jets Smith secured three of three targets for 33 yards during Sunday's win over the Jets.
Impact Smith saw a normal level of playing time but still matched his season low in targets. With Taysom Hill playing through a hand injury, production will likely be boom or bust for Smith down the stretch as the offense revolves around Kamara's and Hill's rushing abilities.
DECEMBER 13, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Does little with seven targets Smith caught two of seven targets for 15 yards during Thursday's 27-17 loss to the Cowboys.
Impact Smith and Marquez Callaway again paced Saints wideouts in snaps, but both were outdone by Deonte Harris, who logged just 40 percent of the snaps but caught four of eight targets for 96 yards and a score. However, Smith easily could have had a better stat line if his passes were more catchable -- Taysom Hill (hand) tore a ligament in the middle finder on his throwing hand early in the first quarter and played through it the rest of the game. Considering the dual-threat Hill wasn't the greatest passer to begin with, Hill playing through a finger injury on his throwing hand would make his pass catchers even less desirable fantasy assets.
DECEMBER 5, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Modest Thanksgiving output Smith caught four of five targets for 31 yards during Thursday's 31-6 loss to Buffalo.
Impact Smith led Saints receivers in snaps but his upside was again capped by the limitations of Trevor Siemian. While things may not get much better if New Orleans moves to Taysom Hill at quarterback, Hill may actually give the offense a chance to consistently get into scoring position before garbage time. Next up is a Week 13 home matchup against Dallas.
NOVEMBER 26, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Leads team in receiving Smith secured five of eight targets for 64 yards in the Saints' 40-29 loss to the Eagles on Sunday.
Impact Smith co-led the Saints in receptions and targets in what was another solid albeit unspectacular performance. The speedster has now encouragingly drawn 15 targets over the last two games while working with Trevor Siemian, and both his catch and yardage totals Sunday were season highs. Smith could have a difficult time generating an encore performance next time out, however, as a Week 12 home matchup against the Bills on Thanksgiving night awaits.

Saints share mix of bitterness, optimism after close loss

Saints coach Sean Payton and his players are bitter and encouraged in equal measure about New Orleans’ latest loss
NOVEMBER 16, 2021 • Associated Press
Commands seven targets Smith recorded four receptions on seven targets for 61 yards in Sunday's 23-21 loss to the Titans.
Impact Smith tied for the team lead with seven targets, which also served as his best mark for the season. He delivered with receptions of 21 and 11 yards, the latter of which went for a touchdown early in the second quarter. Smith has now topped 50 yards in each of the two games that Trevor Siemian has started heading into a Week 11 matchup against the Eagles.
NOVEMBER 15, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Three more catches Smith caught three of four targets for 53 yards during Sunday's 27-25 loss to Atlanta.
Impact Since returning from injury in Week 7, Smith has seen a handful of targets per game, but he'll need to see a few more in order to have fantasy utility with Trevor Siemian under center. Even if Taysom Hill gets the starting nod at quarterback in Week 10, the season-ending loss of Jameis Winston (knee) was a hit to Smith's value, and it will be hard to get excited about his outlook unless he starts becoming a favorite target of either Siemian or Hill. Until then, there are probably better fantasy options to roll the dice on.

Finds end zone Smith caught three of three targets for 33 yards and one touchdown during Sunday's 36-27 win over Tampa Bay.
Impact Smith caught a touchdown from Jameis Winston (knee) early on and he almost had a second from Trevor Siemian only to be tackled on the one-yard line. However, with Winston seemingly set to miss time, the modest upside Smith once held takes a hit, as New Orleans is likely to lean on the run game regardless of whether Taysom Hill (concussion) or Trevor Siemian is under center in Week 9 against Atlanta.

One catch in ugly season debut Smith (hamstring) caught one of three targets for 11 yards in Monday's 13-10 win over the Seahawks.
Impact Smith was noticeable for all the wrong reasons in his season debut, registering an early drop and later getting into a shouting match with quarterback Jameis Winston on the sideline after Smith failed to line up correctly. He completed the trifecta of miscues when he nearly derailed what turned out to be New Orleans' game-winning drive with an offensive pass interference penalty, but Smith made amends by gaining 11 yards on the very next play, turning the 2nd-and-16 hole he created into a manageable 3rd-and-5. Smith's a downfield burner who could benefit from Winston's big arm as soon as Week 8 against the Buccaneers, though we can't blame you for not rushing to the waiver wire for the 25-year-old receiver after this performance.

Activated for MNF Smith (hamstring) has been activated off IR in advance of Monday night's game against the Seahawks,Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football reports.
Impact With Michael Thomas (ankle) still on the PUP list and Deonte Harris (hamstring) out Monday, Smith has a chance to step back into a key role in his first game action of the season. Also in the Saints' Week 7 wideout mix are Marquez Callaway, Kenny Stills and Ty Montgomery, but provided he avoids any setbacks, Smith figures to see his share of targets versus Seattle.
OCTOBER 25, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Practice window opens The Saints designated Smith (hamstring) to return from injured reserve Tuesday, Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football reports.
Impact Thus, a 21-day window opens for Smith to prove his health with the aim to get back on the active roster, or else stay on IR for the rest of the season. The Saints could use reinforcements at wide receiver, as Marquez Callaway leads the position group with 13 catches through five games. Smith is ahead of Michael Thomas (ankle) in his recovery, so he has a good chance to be New Orleans' No. 1 WR for a spell when he's cleared to play.

Placed on IR Smith (hamstring) was placed on injured reserve Friday afternoon, Rod Walker of The Times-Picayune reports.
Impact Smith has barely practiced since the first week of August and now can be ruled out for the first three games of the season. His earliest possible date for a 2021 debut is Week 4 against the Giants, while fellow Saints wideout Michael Thomas (PUP - ankle) can come back Week 7 at Seattle. It looks like Marquez Callaway will be Jameis Winston's favorite wideout in the meantime, with Deonte Harris, Lil'Jordan Humphrey, Chris Hogan and Ty Montgomery providing support.
SEPTEMBER 10, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Sits out with hamstring issue Smith was a non-participant at Thursday's practice due to a hamstring injury, Matt Schneidman of The Athletic reports.
Impact Smith dealt with an undisclosed health concern in training camp, which he suffered in practice Aug. 3 and kept him sidelined for the entire preseason. He managed to avoid the Saints' first injury report of the regular season Wednesday, but his absence Thursday is curious just days away from a Week 1 showdown with the Packers in Jacksonville. New Orleans may just be giving Smith a maintenance day, but his standing on Friday's practice report now is worthwhile to check out. If Smith is held out Sunday, a combination of Lil'Jordan Humphrey, Deonte Harris and Chris Hogan stand to benefit alongside starter Marquez Callaway.
SEPTEMBER 9, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Not listed on injury report Smith (undisclosed) wasn't listed on the Saints' injury report Wednesday.
Impact Smith was knocked from a training camp session Aug. 3, spending two weeks away from the field. While he rejoined his teammates Aug. 17, the Saints kept him out of their entire preseason slate. Now that he's unhindered at practice again, Smith will team with Marquez Callaway at the top of a WR depth chart that'll be without Michael Thomas (ankle) for the first month of the season.
