Quiet in regular-season finale
Ahmed took his only carry for seven yards during Sunday's 11-6 win over the Jets.
Impact
Ahmed handled his usual rotational role Week 18, but depending on the status of Raheem Mostert (finger) coming off a fractured thumb, he could be in for increased opportunities during the wild-card playoff matchup against the Bills. The Dolphins will be without Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) in Buffalo, so the team could lean more on the running game than usual.

No carries vs. Packers
Ahmed did not handle an offensive snap during Sunday's 26-20 loss to the Packers.
Impact
Ahmed wasn't utilized in a complementary offensive role with both Raheem Mostert and Jeff Wilson healthy and active. He was instead limited to special teams, where he handled 38 percent of snaps. Though competent if called upon, Ahmed doesn't have a clear path to fantasy relevance heading into a Week 17 divisional matchup against the Patriots.

Productive in complementary role
Ahmed rushed six times for 43 yards and a touchdown in the Dolphins' 32-29 loss to the Bills on Saturday night.
Impact
Ahmed saw an elevated role with Jeff Wilson (hip) sidelined, and he ultimately logged one more carry than he had all season combined. Ahmed made good use of the rare opportunity, scoring on an 11-yard run late in the first half to bring the Dolphins to within a point. Despite the encouraging results Saturday, it's difficult to envision Ahmed getting more than just a handful of snaps if Wilson is back for the Week 16 Christmas Day home clash against the Packers, although his performance could ensure he and not Myles Gaskin garners active status for that contest as the No. 3 running back.

Back in full Wednesday
Ahmed (back) was listed as a full participant on the Dolphins' injury report Wednesday, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Impact
Ahmed was ruled inactive for Miami's Week 5 loss to the Jets after being limited with a back injury in practice Thursday and Friday. However, the 23-year-old running back appears to be healthy given his ability to return in full for the first practice of Week 6. Ahmed has been exclusively used on special teams over two games played this season, though he could see his first offensive snaps if running back Raheem Mostert (knee) is sidelined for Sunday's game against the Vikings.

Unable to play Sunday
Ahmed (back) is inactive for Sunday's contest with the Jets.
Impact
Ahmed logged limited practices Thursday and Friday with the injury, but he's still not ready to compete. In his absence, Myles Gaskin will operate as the team's No. 3 running back. Ahmed will work to return in Week 6 against the Vikings.

ROTOWIRE
Questionable with back injury
Ahmed (back) is questionable for Sunday's matchup against the Jets, Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN.com reports.
Impact
Ahmed landed on the injury report Thursday as a limited participant due to a back injury and remained limited Friday. The reserve running back has been active for only two games this season and played exclusively on special teams during those contests, so his potential absence shouldn't be concerning for Miami's offense.

Active for Week 2
Ahmed (heel) is listed as active for Sunday's game against the Ravens.
Impact
With Myles Gaskin inactive Sunday, Ahmed is in uniform; however, he figures to work behind Chase Edmonds and Raheem Mostert, a context that gives Ahmed limited Week 2 fantasy upside.

Listed as questionable for Sunday
Ahmed (heel) is questionable for Sunday's matchup against the Ravens, Daniel Oyefusi of the Miami Herald reports.
Impact
Ahmed didn't practice Wednesday but was limited Thursday and Friday. Even if Ahmed is available, it's unlikely he'll garner a major offensive role behind Chase Edmonds, Raheem Mostert and Myles Gaskin.

Returns to practice
Ahmed (heel) was able to log a limited practice Thursday, Daniel Oyefusi of the Miami Herald reports.
Impact
Ahmed was unable to practice Wednesday and was inactive for Week 1 against the Patriots. Even if Ahmed is healthy enough to suit up Sunday against the Ravens, it's possible he'd be a healthy inactive, as he's behind Chase Edmonds, Raheem Mostert and Myles Gaskin on the team's running back depth chart.

Still sidelined with heel injury
Ahmed (heel) didn't practice Wednesday, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Impact
Ahmed popped up on the injury report Wednesday and was limited at practice throughout the week before ultimately being inactive for the season opener. Given his practice designation, he doesn't appear to be trending in the right direction, so it's likely he'll be sidelined for a second straight game. Regardless, as long as Chase Edmonds, Raheem Mostert and Myles Gaskin are healthy, Ahmed doesn't have a clear path to playing time, so his potential absence shouldn't be too concerning.

Inks contract tender
Ahmed, who was an exclusive rights free agent, has signed his contract tender with the Dolphins, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports.
Impact
The 23-year-old logged 54 carries for 149 yards and added 12 catches on 19 targets for 117 yards in 12 games with the Dolphins in 2021. This coming season, Ahmed, along with Myles Gaskin and Gerrid Doaks, slots into a depth role in Miami's backfield, behind Chase Edmonds and Raheem Mostert. It's a context that limits Ahmed's fantasy upside so long as the team's top duo remains healthy and available.

Tendered by Miami
The Dolphins tendered Ahmed, who was an exclusive rights free agent, Tuesday, Daniel Oyefusi of the Miami Herald reports.
Impact
Given his status as an exclusive rights free agent, Ahmed won't be able to negotiate with other teams after being tendered. The 23-year-old running back appeared in 12 contests for the Dolphins in 2021. He totaled 54 carries for 149 yards and added 12 catches on 19 targets for 117 yards. However, he was a healthy scratch for the final four games of the campaign, so it's unclear where he would stand on the depth chart heading into the new league year.

Unimpressive in sophomore season
Ahmed appeared in 12 contests in 2021, recording 54 carries for 149 yards without a touchdown. He also secured 12 of 19 targets for 117 yards.
Impact
Ahmed was the least efficient member of Miami's regular backfield rotation (2.8 YPC), and he found himself a heathy scratch during the final four games of the year. As an exclusive rights free agent this offseason and with a new coaching staff eventually coming in, Ahmed's time with the team could well be nearing an end.

ROTOWIRE
Inactive for Week 17
Ahmed is inactive for Sunday's game against the Titans.
Impact
With Ahmed inactive Sunday and the odd man out in Miami's backfield for now, the team's Week 17 running back corps will be led by Duke Johnson, Myles Gaskin and Phillip Lindsay.

ROTOWIRE
Does little with eight carries
Ahmed logged eight carries for 23 yards during Sunday's divisional win over the Jets.
Impact
Ahmed managed to clear the league's COVID-19 protocols in time to suit up Week 15, but he logged another disappointing fantasy performance, as has become routine for the 22-year-old. Through 12 appearances this season, Ahmed has compiled a dismal 2.8 yards per carry on 54 attempts and has been held out of the end zone entirely. Now, Duke Johnson appears to have passed him on the depth chart.

Suits up Sunday
Ahmed is listed as active for Sunday's game against the Jets, Joe Schad of The Palm Beach Post reports.
Impact
As is fellow running back Myles Gaskin, after both players were activated from the reserve/COVID-19 list Friday. With Phillip Lindsay (reserve/COVID-19 list) and Malcolm Brown (quad/IR-R) unavailable for the contest, we'd expect Gaskin to head Miami's Week 15 backfield, with Ahmed and Duke Johnson candidates to mix in. With that in mind, Ahmed is a hit-or-miss fantasy option Sunday versus New York.

Back at practice Friday
Ahmed (illness) was activated from the reserve/COVID-19 list and is available to practice Friday, Joe Schad of The Palm Beach Post reports.
Impact
Ahmed, Myles Gaskin and Phillip Lindsay all tested positive for the virus during Miami's bye week, but the team is getting Ahmed and Gaskin back Friday. Ahmed figures to fill a depth role with Gaskin likely to lead the backfield Sunday versus the Jets.

Positive for COVID-19
Ahmed tested positive for COVID-19 and was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list Saturday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Impact
According to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, Ahmed is vaccinated, meaning he'll be eligible to return from the list once he's asymptomatic for 48 hours and submits two negative tests at least 24 hours apart. With the Dolphins on bye Week 14, Ahmed and Myles Gaskin (illness) -- who was also placed on the list Friday due to a positive test -- should both have a shot at making it back for a Dec. 19 matchup with the Jets in Week 15.
