Limps off practice field Ahmed (lower body) departed Monday's practice early with a noticeable limp, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.

Impact Ahmed limped off the field after making a catch and was able to spend time on an exercise bike off to the side before heading indoors. The severity of Ahmed's injury remains unclear, but it was a non-contact issue. If Ahmed is forced to miss significant time, rookie seventh-round pick Gerrid Doaks will be in line for more reps behind Myles Gaskin and Malcolm Brown.

He averaged 4.3 yards on 75 carries and 5.6 yards on 11 catches, while Gaskin had 4.1 YPC on 142 carries and 9.5 YPR on 41 receptions. The Dolphins declined to make any splashy backfield additions in the offseason, settling for Brown in free agency and Doaks in the seventh round of the draft. Ahmed thus has a shot to earn the No. 2 spot on the depth chart, but it's also possible a poor summer could put him on the wrong side of preseason cuts.

Impact Ahmed split Miami's backfield work fairly evenly with Myles Gaskin during the Week 17 loss, and the backs managed to score despite both being held under 30 rushing yards. Through six appearances with the Dolphins in 2020, the undrafted rookie compiled 319 yards and three touchdowns on 75 carries (4.3 YPC). Ahmed also secured 11 of 14 targets for 61 yards. He remains under contract with Miami through 2021, so barring any offseason pickups he could begin next season as the No. 2 option behind Gaskin.
