INJURIES

Exits Sunday's game Seals-Jones was forced out of Sunday's game against the Eagles with a neck injury.
Impact Prior to his exit from the contest, Seals-Jones -- who will not return to action Sunday -- caught one of his two targets for eight yards. In his absence, John Bates is slated to head Washington's Week 17 tight end corps.

FANTASY PLAYS: Players to start and sit for NFL Week 17

Keep an eye on the news with Jimmy Garoppolo in San Francisco

Negative yardage in huge loss Seals-Jones caught his lone target for negative-four yards in Sunday's 56-14 loss to Dallas.
Impact Seals-Jones may have caught the worst of this one-sided affair, as his lone target went backwards and he didn't get another touch for the remainder of the contest. Backup tight end John Bates flashed his talent in garbage time (2-45-1), so we could see some of RSJ's targets go his way on a fluid depth chart. Most fantasy managers won't bother with Seals-Jones heading into a Week 17 matchup against the Eagles.
DECEMBER 27, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Co-leads team in targets Seals-Jones (illness) brought in four of seven targets for 29 yards in Washington's 27-17 loss to the Eagles on Tuesday night.
Impact The veteran tight end co-led the team in targets alongside Antonio Gibson and was also second in receptions to his teammate. Seals-Jones is in possession of the top tight end job the rest of the way with Logan Thomas (knee) on injured reserve, so he'll have some utility in a Week 16 road matchup against the Cowboys on Sunday night, especially if Taylor Heinicke is able to clear COVID-19 protocols in time for that contest.

Garrett Gilbert starting at QB for Washington at Eagles

Garrett Gilbert is set to start at quarterback for Washington at Philadelphia in a key game with NFC wild-card implications
DECEMBER 21, 2021 • Associated Press
Suiting up Tuesday Seals-Jones (illness) is listed as active Tuesday at Philadelphia.
Impact Seals-Jones picked up a non-COVID-19 illness over the weekend, but the fact this contest was pushed back allowed the tight end to make himself available for Week 15 action. With Logan Thomas (knee) on injured reserve, Seals-Jones will continue to serve as the No. 1 TE for Washington, while John Bates and Alex Armah are the other available options at the position. Unfortunately for Seals-Jones, he doesn't have much familiarity with the team's spot starter at QB, Garrett Gilbert, who is stepping in for Taylor Heinicke (reserve/COVID-19) and Kyle Allen (reserve/COVID-19).

Gets questionable tag for Week 15 Seals-Jones (illness) is listed as questionable for Tuesday's game against the Eagles.
Impact A non-COVID-19-related illness kept Seals-Jones from practicing Sunday, but he returned to the field as a full participant Monday. Though he'll still carry a designation into the Week 15 contest, Seals-Jones' ability to put in a full practice bodes well for his chances of gaining clearance for Tuesday's game. If active, Seals-Jones will presumably start at tight end, but he'll likely have to split work at tight end with rookie John Bates, who has made a push for more playing time in the second half of the season.

Misses practice with illness Seals-Jones didn't participate in Sunday's practice due to an illness, making his status uncertain for Tuesday's game against the Eagles, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post repo...
Impact Washington hasn't placed Seals-Jones on the reserve/COVID-19 list, but his situation will bear watching over the next two days with 13 members of the Football Team roster still residing on the list as of Sunday. John Bates worked with the first-team offense at Friday's practice and would be in line to start at tight end if Seals-Jones can't gain clearance for Tuesday's game. Washington would likely elevate fullback Alex Armah from the practice squad to provide depth at the position behind Bates in that scenario.
DECEMBER 19, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Washington-Eagles moved to Tuesday Seals-Jones and Washington will no longer play the Eagles on Sunday, after the NFL officially rescheduled the matchup between the two teams for Tuesday at 7 p.m. ET.
Impact Due to ongoing COVID-19-related issues within Washington's organization, the NFL is hopeful that by delaying the game two days, the Football Team will restore enough players from the reserve/COVID-19 list to alleviate depth concerns on the roster.
DECEMBER 17, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Almost invisible Seals-Jones caught one pass for eight yards on four targets against Dallas on Sunday.
Impact Seals-Jones and the Washington passing game in general really struggled Sunday, in large part because Washington couldn't even slightly slow the Dallas pass rush. Quarterbacks Taylor Heinicke and Kyle Allen both fell apart in this one, making it difficult to judge Seals-Jones for his otherwise disappointing box score. If Washington continues to struggle with their pass blocking then it could make it tough for Seals-Jones to get going against Philadelphia in Week 15.
DECEMBER 12, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Good to go, replacing Thomas Seals-Jones (hip) has been cleared to play in Sunday's game against the Cowboys, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports.
Impact Seals-Jones comes back from a three-game absence right after fellow tight end Logan Thomas suffered a season-ending knee injury. During his first stint replacing Thomas, the 26-year-old took on an every-down role and saw four or more targets in six straight games, averaging 3.7 catches for 35.2 yards on 5.7 targets despite leaving the sixth game in the first half with a hip injury. A similar workload down the stretch would keep Seals-Jones on the radar in most fantasy leagues, but it is possible rookie John Bates takes on a little more work this time around, having played more than half the offensive snaps in four straight games entering Sunday.

Logs limited session Thursday Seals-Jones (hip) practiced in a limited fashion Thursday.
Impact Seals-Jones has yet to log a full practice since injuring his hip back in Week 10 against the Buccaneers, missing three games as a result. With Washington placing Logan Thomas (knee) on injured reserve Wednesday, there's now a void to fill at tight end for the Football Team's offense, which Seals-Jones will take on when he's able to gain clearance to play. Aside from Seals-Jones, John Bates is the other candidate to get significant work at the position.

Washington looking for third consecutive win against Cowboys

Washington is looking to win three consecutive games against the Dallas Cowboys for the first time since 1986-88
DECEMBER 8, 2021 • Associated Press
Limited to begin Week 14 Seals-Jones (hip) was a limited practice participant Wednesday, John Keim of ESPN.com reports.
Impact Seals-Jones has missed three straight games, but if healthy, he could step back into a three-down role as Washington's top tight end as soon as Sunday's game against the Cowboys. Logan Thomas reclaimed starting duties at the position for the past two games following a seven-week stint on injured reserve due to a hamstring injury, but he's now out for the season after returning to IR on Wednesday after injuring his left knee in last week's win over the Raiders. According to Keim, the Football Team expects Seals-Jones to put an end to his three-game absence this weekend, but he may need to upgrade to full practice participation by Friday for that to be a reality. When Thomas was on IR earlier this season, Seals-Jones averaged four catches for 38.4 yards and 0.2 touchdowns on six targets across his five starts from Weeks 5 through 10, emerging as a low-end streaming option in many formats. It's possible he returns to that status, though that's far from a guarantee given his hip injury along with rookie John Bates' increasing contributions as the No. 2 tight end behind Thomas the past two weeks.
DECEMBER 8, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Inactive Week 13 Seals-Jones (hip) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Raiders.
Impact The journeyman will thus sit out a third straight contest after doing a serviceable job filling in for a then-injured Logan Thomas for a six-game stretch. Thomas is back healthy as of Week 12 and will continue filling No. 1 tight end duties, with rookie fourth-round pick John Bates bumping up on the depth chart again behind him with Seals-Jones out.
DECEMBER 5, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Questionable against Raiders Seals-Jones (hip) is questionable for Sunday's game against the Raiders, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports.
Impact Even if he plays, Seals-Jones is expected to back up Logan Thomas, who returned from a hamstring injury last week. Seals-Jones' hip injury has sidelined him for each of Washington's past two games.
DECEMBER 3, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Limited again in practice Seals-Jones (hip) was a limited participant in Thursday's practice, John Keim of ESPN.com reports.
Impact Prior to exiting early in Washington's Week 10 win over Tampa Bay with a hip injury and then missing the Football Team's next two games, Seals-Jones played no fewer than 92 percent of the offensive snaps in any of his previous five appearances. With a pair of limited practices to begin Week 13 prep, Seals-Jones has a decent chance of suiting up Sunday against Las Vegas, but he'll likely be looking at a significant role reduction if he's active for the contest. Seals-Jones' snap counts before he suffered the injury were inflated by the absence of top tight end Logan Thomas (hamstring), who returned from injured reserve Monday and drew six targets in Washington's 17-15 win over Seattle. Like Seals-Jones, Thomas has been limited in both of Washington's first two practices of the week, but the latter will be the team's unquestioned No. 1 option at the position if he's cleared to play Sunday, as expected.
DECEMBER 2, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Logs limited practice Seals-Jones (hip) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice, John Keim of ESPN.com reports.
Impact Seals-Jones hasn't taken the field since being forced out of a Week 10 matchup against Tampa Bay, but it's encouraging to see him logging limited practice reps. As long as Logan Thomas (hamstring) takes the field Sunday in Las Vegas, however, Seals-Jones likely won't see many offensive opportunities.
DECEMBER 1, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Sitting out Monday Seals-Jones (hip) is inactive for Monday's game against the Seahawks.
Impact Since leaving a Week 10 matchup with the Buccaneers, Seals-Jones has been unable to practice due to a hip injury. He'll miss his second game as a result, but Washington is welcoming back Logan Thomas (hamstring) for the first time since Week 4. Thomas, rookie fourth-rounder John Bates and Sammis Reyes will man tight end for as long as Seals-Jones is sidelined.
NOVEMBER 30, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Likely out Monday Seals-Jones (hip) is doubtful for Monday's game against the Seahawks, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports.
Impact The 26-year-old continues to sit out practice with the hip injury and is likely to be sidelined for the second straight game. Logan Thomas (hamstring) is expected to be activated from injured reserve ahead of Monday's contest, so Seals-Jones' time as Washington's top tight end is likely over, regardless of whether or not he suits up against Seattle.
NOVEMBER 27, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Misses practice Seals-Jones (hip) didn't practice Friday, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports.
Impact At this point, Logan Thomas (hamstring) returning from injured reserve seems more likely than Seals-Jones making it back from his hip injury for Monday's game against Seattle. If both end up sitting, John Bates will fill in as Washington's top TE again.
NOVEMBER 26, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Not practicing Thursday Seals-Jones (hip) was listed as a non-participant on Thursday's practice report.
Impact Seals-Jones dinged his hip in a Week 10 win against the Buccaneers and hasn't been spotted on the field since then, either in practice or this past Sunday at Carolina. Washington designated No. 1 tight end Logan Thomas (hamstring) for return from injured reserve Wednesday, thus opening a 21-day window for him to get back on the active roster. Thomas' ability to practice seemingly puts him ahead of Seals-Jones on the health front, but if neither player gets the all-clear to play Monday versus the Seahawks, John Bates will be the primary tight end for Washington.
NOVEMBER 25, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Out this week Seals-Jones (hip) has been ruled out for Sunday's game in Carolina, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports.
Impact Seals-Jones was spotted on a side field with trainers during Thursday's practice, but he wasn't able to partake in drills with his healthy teammates this week after injuring his hip in last Sunday's 29-19 win over Tampa Bay. With Seals-Jones missing a game before tight end Logan Thomas (hamstring) is ready to return from injured reserve, Washington is left with John Bates and Sammis Reyes atop the depth chart at the position. Both Bates and Reyes are valued for blocking above pass catching, but Bates recorded three receptions for 25 yards against the Buccaneers last week, logging 63 percent of the snaps on offense.
NOVEMBER 19, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Sits out another practice Seals-Jones (hip) was working off to the side with trainers during Thursday's practice and will be listed as a non-participant, Ben Standig of The Athletic reports.
Impact With two absences from practice to begin Week 11 prep, Seals-Jones is likely trending toward an inactive status for Sunday's game in Carolina. Seals-Jones has started in each of Washington's last six games while Logan Thomas (hamstring) has been on injured reserve, but for the first time all season, the Football Team may have to lean more heavily on unproven tight ends John Bates and Sammis Reyes this weekend. Thomas has been spotted rehabbing on a side field the past two days, but since Washington has yet to clear him to practice six weeks after injuring his hamstring, he's unlikely to suit up against the Panthers.
NOVEMBER 18, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Absent due to hip injury Seals-Jones (hip) didn't practice Wednesday, John Keim of ESPN.com reports.
Impact RSJ is in danger of missing time after an early exit from Sunday's win over Tampa Bay. He's been pretty close to a one-for-one replacement for Logan Thomas (IR/hip) in terms of role/volume, averaging 70.8 snaps and 6.5 targets in his four starts prior to the early exit Week 10. With Thomas still on IR and reportedly limited to side-field work at Wednesday's practice, Washington may be left with rookie John Bates and 260-pound blocking specialist Sammis Reyes.
