INJURIES

Missing Wednesday's practice Fant wasn't spotted at practice Wednesday, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports.
Impact Fant may be dealing with residual effects of the high-ankle sprain he's dealt with since early October, though he didn't carry an injury designation into last weekend's loss in Las Vegas. When Denver's first practice report of the week is released later Wednesday, the official reason for Fant's absence will become known.

Grabs three passes Fant caught three of seven targets for 18 yards during Sunday's loss in Las Vegas.
Impact Fant's 18 yards Sunday were a season, low and the sophomore tight end has not topped 50 yards in a game since Week 2. He's averaging just 8.8 yards per catch during that same span, although part of that can be attributed to offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur's scheme. Fant seems to run a ton of quick hitches and routes that have him finding the soft spots in zones. The fact remains, however, that he and Drew Lock seem to miscommunicate on a shot downfield at least once per game. Late in Sunday's game, for instance, Fant was running up field when Lock had pressure in his face and got rid of the ball early. The tight end didn't turn around to look for the early pass, which would have resulted in a gain of at least 15-20 yards. Patience is necessary for two young players in their first season in a new scheme, but they'll need to pick up the pieces quickly in Week 11 against a very tough Miami defense.

Practices without limitations Fant (ankle) was a full participant in Thursday's practice, Troy Renck of Denver 7 News reports.
Impact Fant aggravated a lingering ankle injury during Sunday's loss to the Falcons and couldn't practice Wednesday, but it now looks like he's fully on track to suit up in Las Vegas. Health permitting, Fant could be in line to handle even more opportunities than usual as Denver's starting tight end, with impressive backup Albert Okwuegbunam (knee) out for the season due to an ACL tear.
NOVEMBER 12, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Opens week with limited session Fant (ankle) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice, Troy Renck of Denver 7 News reports.
Impact Fant aggravated an existing ankle injury during this past Sunday's loss to the Falcons, but he was able to complete the game and finish with three receptions for 45 yards. The second-year tight end has been dealing with this injury since the beginning of October, but coach Vic Fangio expects that he'll continue to play through it. Fant's trending in the right direction to begin the week, and he could be leaned on more moving forward because Albert Okwuegbunam (torn ACL) is done for the year.
NOVEMBER 11, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Ankle injury downplayed Coach Vic Fangio said Monday that Fant aggravated his lingering ankle injury during Sunday's 34-27 loss to the Falcons, Troy Renck of Denver 7 News reports.
Impact Fangio said that he expects Fant to be "OK," a notion that's backed up by the fact the second-year pro was able to return to Sunday's game after limping to the locker room in the first quarter. Fant did seem to be hampered by the injury upon his return, however, as he ended the day with just three catches for 45 yards against an Atlanta defense that has struggled to cover opposing tight ends all season. Moreover, most of his production came via the 32-yard catch on which he was injured on the opening drive. With Albert Okwuegbunam (knee) having sustained a season-ending ACL tear Sunday, Fant's ability to get healthy will be key as Denver's offense and Drew Lock look to remain afloat.

Returns to Sunday's game Fant (ankle) returned to Sunday's game versus the Falcons, Ryan O'Halloran of The Denver Post reports.
Impact Fant caught a 32-yard pass on the opening drive but immediately limped to the sidelines. He got re-taped and sat out a series, but the second-year tight end out of Iowa has returned to action.

Suffers ankle injury Fant left Sunday's game at Atlanta due to an ankle injury, Patrick Smyth of the Broncos' official site reports.
Impact Fant limped off the field and went to the locker room during the Broncos' first drive of the game. If he's unable to return, he'll finish Week 9 with one 32-yard catch. Albert Okwuegbunam and Nick Vannett are in line for more reps as long as Fant is sidelined.

Snags seven passes Fant caught seven of nine targets for 47 yards during Sunday's 31-30 win over the Chargers.
Impact With Tim Patrick (hamstring) out of the lineup, Fant served as Drew Lock's security blanket Sunday, tallying a career-high seven catches. He did most of his damage underneath, finding holes in the Chargers' zone and breaking upfield. Fant is getting his opportunities with at least five targets in each game this season -- a number he reached just four times as a rookie in 2019. If there's a gripe to be had, it is that he's not getting the sort of chunk plays he generated last season. Fant is averaging 10.5 yards per catch this season -- down from 14.1 last year -- and he and Lock missed each other on the lone deep shot to Fant Sunday. He may still be hobbled by an ankle sprain suffered earlier this season, but Atlanta's defense -- which ranks 28th in the league with 12.2 yards per opponent catch -- could be just what the doctor ordered in Week 8.

Cleared for Week 8 Fant (ankle) was a full participant in Thursday's practice, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports.
Impact Just like last week, Fant opened Week 8 as a limited participant Wednesday before upgrading to full activity a day later. Now that he's further removed from the sprained ankle he sustained Oct. 1, Fant will look to deliver better results Sunday against the Chargers after the Chiefs limited him to three receptions for 38 yards in his return from a one-game absence last week. Fant still played 70 percent of the offensive snaps in that contest, and he should see a slight uptick in work moving forward after playing no fewer than 73 percent of the snaps in any of the Broncos' first three games.
OCTOBER 29, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Limited to start week Fant (ankle) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports.
Impact Fant started last week limited as well before upgrading to full participation Thursday and handling his typical workload in Sunday's loss to the Chiefs. He should follow a similar path this week ahead of Sunday's matchup against the Chargers, who have allowed 53 yards per game and four total touchdowns to opposing tight ends over six contests this year.

Broncos: we have the right guys to straighten things out

The Denver Broncos insist they have the right players and coaches to turn things around after losing to the Kansas City Chiefs for the 10th consecutive time
OCTOBER 26, 2020 • Associated Press
Three catches in return from injury Fant caught three of his seven targets for 38 receiving yards during Sunday's 43-16 loss to Kansas City.
Impact The second-year tight end returned from a one-game absence and tied Albert Okwuegbunam for the team high in targets, though less than half of Fant's looks went for completions. Despite a quiet day for Fant on Sunday, he has garnered a healthy workload of 6.8 targets per game. Fant has also remained a high-floor option, collecting 4.4 catches and 51.4 receiving yards per game with two total TDs. He heads into a Week 8 matchup against a Chargers defense that entered Sunday allowing the 12th-fewest receptions to opposing tight ends (23).

Practices fully Fant (ankle) was a full practice participant Thursday, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
Impact Fant's upgrade from limited to full activity in practice paves the way for him to return from a one-game absence to play Sunday against the Chiefs. Jake Butt (61 percent offensive snap share), Nick Vannett (45 percent) and Albert Okwuegbunam (38 percent) essentially worked in a timeshare at tight end in the Week 6 win over New England, but Fant should dominate the snaps at the position now that he's healthy again.
