The Latest: Home teams now 65-65-1 in this pandemic season

Seven road teams have prevailed in the NFL's Week 9
NOVEMBER 8, 2020 • Associated Press
Snags seven passes Fant caught seven of nine targets for 47 yards during Sunday's 31-30 win over the Chargers.
Impact With Tim Patrick (hamstring) out of the lineup, Fant served as Drew Lock's security blanket Sunday, tallying a career-high seven catches. He did most of his damage underneath, finding holes in the Chargers' zone and breaking upfield. Fant is getting his opportunities with at least five targets in each game this season -- a number he reached just four times as a rookie in 2019. If there's a gripe to be had, it is that he's not getting the sort of chunk plays he generated last season. Fant is averaging 10.5 yards per catch this season -- down from 14.1 last year -- and he and Lock missed each other on the lone deep shot to Fant Sunday. He may still be hobbled by an ankle sprain suffered earlier this season, but Atlanta's defense -- which ranks 28th in the league with 12.2 yards per opponent catch -- could be just what the doctor ordered in Week 8.

Cleared for Week 8 Fant (ankle) was a full participant in Thursday's practice, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports.
Impact Just like last week, Fant opened Week 8 as a limited participant Wednesday before upgrading to full activity a day later. Now that he's further removed from the sprained ankle he sustained Oct. 1, Fant will look to deliver better results Sunday against the Chargers after the Chiefs limited him to three receptions for 38 yards in his return from a one-game absence last week. Fant still played 70 percent of the offensive snaps in that contest, and he should see a slight uptick in work moving forward after playing no fewer than 73 percent of the snaps in any of the Broncos' first three games.

Limited to start week Fant (ankle) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports.
Impact Fant started last week limited as well before upgrading to full participation Thursday and handling his typical workload in Sunday's loss to the Chiefs. He should follow a similar path this week ahead of Sunday's matchup against the Chargers, who have allowed 53 yards per game and four total touchdowns to opposing tight ends over six contests this year.

Broncos: we have the right guys to straighten things out

The Denver Broncos insist they have the right players and coaches to turn things around after losing to the Kansas City Chiefs for the 10th consecutive time
OCTOBER 26, 2020 • Associated Press
Three catches in return from injury Fant caught three of his seven targets for 38 receiving yards during Sunday's 43-16 loss to Kansas City.
Impact The second-year tight end returned from a one-game absence and tied Albert Okwuegbunam for the team high in targets, though less than half of Fant's looks went for completions. Despite a quiet day for Fant on Sunday, he has garnered a healthy workload of 6.8 targets per game. Fant has also remained a high-floor option, collecting 4.4 catches and 51.4 receiving yards per game with two total TDs. He heads into a Week 8 matchup against a Chargers defense that entered Sunday allowing the 12th-fewest receptions to opposing tight ends (23).

Practices fully Fant (ankle) was a full practice participant Thursday, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
Impact Fant's upgrade from limited to full activity in practice paves the way for him to return from a one-game absence to play Sunday against the Chiefs. Jake Butt (61 percent offensive snap share), Nick Vannett (45 percent) and Albert Okwuegbunam (38 percent) essentially worked in a timeshare at tight end in the Week 6 win over New England, but Fant should dominate the snaps at the position now that he's healthy again.

Begins week with limited practice Fant (ankle) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports
Impact Fant was limited all week leading up to the Week 6 win over the Patriots, and coach Vic Fangio suggested the tight end had a "50-50" chance to play. He was ultimately ruled out, but he should have a good chance to play this Sunday versus the Chiefs if he can maintain the upward trajectory. Quarterback Drew Lock will be back under center, and the two will look to pick up where they left off if Fant can shake the injury by Sunday.

Vic Fangio has turned the Denver Broncos loose on the blitz

Denver Broncos coach Vic Fangio has dialed up the blitz in consecutive wins over the New York Jets and New England Patriots on the road
OCTOBER 19, 2020 • Associated Press
Could return Week 7 Coach Vic Fangio said Monday that Fant (ankle) has a "chance" to face the Chiefs on Sunday, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports.
Impact Fant is continuing to work his way back from an ankle sprain sustained Week 4. The second-year tight end was initially deemed to have a "50/50" shot for last Sunday's 18-12 win over the Patriots, but he was ultimately ruled out before even flying with the team to New England. He'll look to upgrade his level of practice activity leading up to Week 7.

Noah Fant, Melvin Gordon III downgraded to out for #DENvsNE Both players were previously listed as questionable.
OCTOBER 17, 2020 • DENVERBRONCOS.COM
Unable to play Sunday Fant (ankle) has been downgraded to out ahead of Sunday's contest against the Patriots, Troy Renck of Denver 7 News reports.
Impact Considering coach Vic Fangio suggested Friday the tight end was "50-50 to go this week," it's perhaps a bit surprising that Fant won't even travel with the team to New England one day later. That being said, the 22-year-old was ruled out prior to Monday's contest before the game was eventually postponed, so this shouldn't come as a major surprise. Jake Butt, Nick Vannett and Albert Okwuegbunam will likely serve as a three-headed attack in replace of Fant this week.
OCTOBER 17, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Draws questionable tag Fant (ankle) is officially listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Patriots, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
Impact Coach Vic Fangio said that Fant "is 50/50 to go this week," so it looks like the second-year tight end's status is still truly up in the air. Fant originally sprained his ankle Week 4 against the Jets, but has since gotten the benefit of an unexpected Week 5 bye after Denver's initially scheduled game against the Patriots was postponed. New England has once again cancelled practices Friday due to a positive COVID-19 test, there are numerous factors surrounding Fant's availability for Week 6.
OCTOBER 16, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Logs limited workout Fant (ankle) was a limited participant in Thursday's practice, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
Impact Prior to the workout, coach Vic Fangio labeled Fant as "50-50" to play Sunday at New England, according to DiLalla. Given that Fant's limited activity in practice matched his listing from Wednesday, it's unlikely the tight end did much to change his questionable status in Fangio's mind. If Fant can put in a full practice Friday, the Broncos would likely have more optimism about his chances of being ready to suit up this weekend without having missed any game action. Fant originally sprained his ankle in the Week 4 win over the Jets and benefited from an unexpected Week 5 bye after the Patriots-Broncos game was postponed following due to positive COVID-19 tests within New England's organization.
