The Denver Broncos flipped the script on their sorrowful Septembers of the last two seasons and went 3-0 for their best start in five years

Quiet in win
Fant secured two receptions on three targets for 15 yards in Sunday's 26-0 win over the Jets.
Impact
Fant was not a big part of the game plan in Week 3 as the Broncos cruised to victory over the hapless Jets. His three targets were tied for third most on a day when quarterback Teddy Bridgewater threw 25 passes. With wide receiver KJ Hamler going down with a knee injury Sunday, it is likely that the veteran tight end could see a bump in his usage going forward if Hamler is forced to miss time. The Broncos are already without Jerry Jeudy, so Denver's pass-catching group is getting thinner. The 6-foot-4, 249-pounder's athleticism will likely be relied on to help the offense move the chains going forward, and Fant will get a shot to bounce back when the Broncos host the Ravens in Week 4.

Turns in another limited session
Fant (ankle) will be a limited participant in Thursday's practice, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
Impact
For the second day in a row, Fant will have his reps capped while he manages an ankle injury, but the Broncos have yet to suggest the issue is anything that will prevent him from playing Sunday against the Jets. Ideally, Fant will upgrade to full participation in practice Friday, which should clear the way for him to enter the weekend without an injury designation.

Limited to start week
Fant was a limited practice participant Wednesday due to an ankle injury, Ryan O'Halloran of The Denver Post reports.
Impact
Fant has drawn 14 targets on a 77 percent snap share through two games, catching 10 passes for 95 yards and a touchdown. A limited practice to begin Week 3 prep should put him on track to play against the Jets on Sunday, though Denver has a promising backup tight end in Albert Okwuegbunam.

Finds end zone
Fant recorded four receptions on six targets for 33 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's Week 2 matchup against the Jaguars.
Impact
Fant was the team's second-most targeted receiver in the absence of Jerry Jeudy (ankle). The majority of his work was limited to short areas of the field, and he managed only 5.5 yards per target as a result. However, he found the end zone from 14 yards away -- it was his only catch that went for double-digit yards -- to prop up his production. Fant should remain heavily involved in the offense in another exploitable matchup in Week 3 against the Jets.

Targeted eight times
Fant recorded six receptions on eight targets for 62 yards in the Broncos' Week 1 victory against the Giants on Sunday.
Impact
Fant led the team in targets, though that title likely would have belonged to Jerry Jeudy had the latter not suffered an ankle injury in the middle of the game. Fant served primarily as a target in the short areas of the field for Teddy Bridgewater, though he did manage to record a 25-yard reception. Perhaps most importantly, Fant should be in for a more consistent role in the offense while Jeudy remains sidelined and Courtland Sutton continues to ramp up after returning from a knee injury. Fant and the rest of the Broncos' receiving corps should be in for a good matchup against the Jaguars.

Returns to full practice
Fant (knee) practiced fully Thursday.
Impact
With that, Fant is slated to be ready to play against the Giants in Sunday's season opener, with Teddy Bridgewater getting the start at QB for Denver. Fant, along with top wideouts Courtland Sutton and Jerry Jeudy, thus is in line to be a key weapon in the Broncos' passing attack out of the gate this season. In that context, an uptick from Fant's 62-673-3 stat line (in 15 games) from last year seems plausible in 2021.

Full practice expected
Coach Vic Fangio expects Fant (knee) to be a full practice participant Thursday, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
Impact
If that's the case, the tight end clearly will be trending in the right direction as Sunday's season opener against the Giants approaches. Thursday's injury report will reveal whether or not Fant's on-field activity matches up with Fangio's pre-practice expectations.

Logs limited practice
Fant (knee) was limited at Wednesday's practice, Ben Swanson of the Broncos' official site reports.
Impact
Per Aric DiLalla of the team's official site, coach Vic Fangio previously indicated that he thinks Fant should be available Sunday against the Giants. However, it's still worth monitoring the tight end's progress as the week progresses to see if he approaches Week 1 action with an official injury designation.

On track to play Sunday
Fant (leg) participated in individual drills during Monday's practice, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
Impact
DiLalla adds that coach Vic Fangio believes that Fant should be able to play Sunday against the Giants. That's a notion that should be solidified, one way or the other, as the Broncos continue their preparation leading up to their Week 1 kickoff. The team's first practice/injury report of 2021 is due Wednesday.

Not practicing
Fant (leg) isn't practicing Thursday, but he's still expected to return to practice next week, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports.
Impact
He's been out of practice for more than a week now, leaving Albert Okwuegbunam, Eric Saubert and Andrew Back as the Broncos' tight ends. The Broncos expect Fant to play Week 1 against the Giants, but we'll start to be concerned if he isn't on the practice field next week.

Should be fine for opener
Fant (leg) should be ready for Week 1, James Palmer of NFL Network reports.
Impact
Fant has missed practice all week and won't play in Saturday's preseason game against the Rams. After that, the Broncos will have two weeks to prepare for their Sept. 12 opener against the Giants, with Teddy Bridgewater getting the start at QB. The breakout case for Fant remains solid, though he'll have no shortage of competition for targets in the Denver offense.
