INJURIES

Taking part in individual work Eagles head coach Doug Pederson labeled Sanders (lower body) as day-to-day and said the running back would take part in individual work during Wednesday's practice, Mike Kaye of Th...
Impact The Eagles' first official practice report will be released later Wednesday and will reveal how extensively Sanders was involved in the session, but based on Pederson's comments, expect the 23-year-old to be listed as a limited participant. Though the lower-body injury cost Sanders significant practice time during training camp, the Eagles remain optimistic that he'll be ready to headline the team's backfield in Sunday's season opener against Washington. If Sanders' recovery doesn't progress as expected and he ends up sitting out the Week 1 matchup or taking on a more limited workload than normal, Boston Scott and Corey Clement would be in store for heightened roles.

On track for Week 1 Sanders (lower body) is expected to be available for Sept. 13's season-opener against Washington, Paul Domowitch of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Impact Sanders has missed a substantial amount of training camp due to a lower body injury, but reports have been consistently optimistic about his chances of suiting up Week 1. The 23-year-old will function as the lead dog in Philadelphia's backfield if he's indeed available against Washington, but until he resumes practicing without restrictions the possibility of a snap count can't be ruled out. Boston Scott and Corey Clement would be in line for increased snaps if Sanders ends up limited in any capacity.

Misses practice with injury Sanders is considered "week to week" with an unspecified lower-body injury, Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Impact Everything coming out of Eagles camp to date has fed the breakout hype surrounding Sanders, who enters his second pro season as the clear leader of the Philadelphia backfield. This injury should temporarily slow down the enthusiasm, though John Clark of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports the issue is "not too serious" and shouldn't keep Sanders out for Week 1 at Washington. If things were to take a turn for the worse, it likely would be Boston Scott and Corey Clement handling most of the backfield snaps in the season opener. The Eagles might also consider a veteran RB signing, something that was discussed earlier this offseason but never ended up happening. In any case, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network supports the notion that Sanders' injury isn't serious.

Philadelphia Eagles take to the ground with Miles Sanders The Eagles leave their committee backfield and hand the ball to Miles Sanders
AUGUST 18, 2020 • THEHUDDLE.COM
Being prepped for lead role Coach Doug Pederson confirmed Monday that the Eagles have told Sanders he's "the guy" this year, John Clark of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports.
Impact Running backs coach Duce Staley made similar comments two weeks earlier, saying Sanders is elusive enough to handle large workloads without taking too many big hits. There's no doubt the second-year back will enter Week 1 in the lead role, but Pederson does have a history of preferring committee backfields... or at least he did until Sanders ran wild down the stretch last season. Granted, the big finish to 2019 was partially a product of Jordan Howard -- now in Miami -- missing time with a shoulder injury, and even then the Eagles worked Boston Scott into their offense over the final four weeks of the regular season and the playoffs. Apart from Scott, the candidates for backup work in training camp are fourth-year pro Corey Clement, 2019 UDFA Elijah Holyfield and undrafted rookies Michael Warren and Adrian Killins. Rumors of a veteran addition haven't come to fruition.

Impact There's been discussion about the Eagles signing Devonta Freeman or another veteran running back, but it hasn't happened so far. The team appears ready to open camp with only Boston Scott, Corey Clement and a trio of undrafted young players behind Sanders in the backfield. The second-round pick held up to large workloads toward the end of his rookie season, averaging 15.7 carries for 71.7 yards and 4.2 catches for 34.2 yards (plus four TDS) over a six-game stretch that included four outings with snap share above 80 percent. Coach Doug Pederson has typically preferred committee backfields, but his current roster hints at a greater degree of dependence on one running back, namely Sanders.
