Impact Sanders was Philadelphia's primary backfield option on early downs prior to getting hurt in Week 7 against the Raiders. Jordan Howard and Boston Scott have filled the gap effectively during Sanders' absence, with the latter likely to stick around as Philadelphia's primary goal-line option. Sanders hadn't scored a touchdown before getting hurt, but he remains the most explosive option in the Eagles' backfield, though he'll have an unappealing matchup in his return against a Saints defense that's allowing a league-low 72.9 rushing yards per game.

Impact Sanders returned to practice Wednesday, opening his 21-day window to be activated from IR after he sat out the minimum of three games. Zach Berman of The Athletic suggests Sanders is more likely to play than not this week, with the Eagles having until Saturday afternoon to place him back on the active roster for Sunday's game. It is possible they could activate him without playing him, or simply bring him back in a minor role, though Sirianni did say earlier this week that he still views Sanders as his starting running back. Granted, Sirianni also suggested other backs may be more involved compared to earlier in the season, after Jordan Howard and Boston Scott helped revive the Philadelphia running game in Sanders' absence. Sanders played around 70 percent of Philly's offensive snaps through the first six weeks of the season, yet averaged only 9.5 carries and 3.8 targets per game. It remains to be seen how things shake out now that the Eagles are more committed to running the ball but also have more options in their backfield. But first, Sanders will simply need to prove he's healthy enough to play.

Even though Sanders was averaging just nine carries per game over seven outings as Philadelphia's de facto lead back, the Eagles have surprisingly morphed into a run-first offense in his absence, with quarterback Jalen Hurts and backs Jordan Howard and Boston Scott leading the ground attack. Given how successful that approach has been the past three weeks -- the Eagles rank second in the NFL in scoring and fourth in total yards over that span -- Sanders could find himself as part of a committee rather than the clear No. 1 option out of the backfield, according to Reuben Frank of NBC Sports Philadelphia. Before the Eagles outline his role, Sanders will need to prove his health in practice this week to put himself in the mix to play Sunday against the Saints.
