INJURIES

Set to miss 4-6 weeks Boone (quadriceps) is expected to be sidelined 4-6 weeks after undergoing an MRI on Friday, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports.
Impact Boone injured his quad during joint practice with the Vikings on Thursday. Surgery won't be required to address the injury, but Boone's recovery timetable does make him uncertain for the Sept. 12 regular-season opener against the Giants. The 26-year-old was putting together a strong camp and looks set for the No. 3 role behind Melvin Gordon and Javonte Williams when healthy.

Iffy to play Saturday Boone (quadriceps) won't practice Friday and is unlikely to suit up for Saturday's preseason contest at Minnesota, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports.
Impact Boone pulled his quad during Thursday's joint session against the Vikings, his former employer. With his new squad, he's expected to serve as a complementary back to top options Melvin Gordon and Javonte Williams, when healthy. Now that Boone is sidelined, he likely will yield that role to Royce Freeman for the time being.

Pulls quad Boone suffered a pulled quad during Thursday's practice, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports.
Impact When healthy, Boone is in line to work in a complementary role behind Melvin Gordon and Javonte Williams. If his quad issue lingers, however, Royce Freeman would be a candidate to step into the Broncos' No. 3 RB role for any length of time Boone misses.
AUGUST 12, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Exits Thursday's practice Boone was carted off the the field Thursday after he appeared to pull something in his left leg, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports.
Impact It remains to be seen if Boone needing a cart to get off the field was precautionary or indicative of an injury that could cost him regular-season time. Klis notes that the running back was having a strong training camp, and if healthy Boone is slated to work in a complementary role behind Melvin Gordon and Javonte Williams. If he misses any length of time, Royce Freeman would be a candidate for added opportunities in Denver's offense.

Buried on post-draft depth chart Boone appears set for a rotational depth role in Denver's backfield after the selection of Javonte Williams in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos'...
Impact Boone initially seemed to be in the mix for the No. 2 role behind Melvin Gordon in Denver, at least after the team's decision to cut Phillip Lindsay, but Javonte Williams boasts the talent and draft capital to push for touches right away. On the bright side, coach Vic Fangio did say he hopes to make use of "[the Broncos'] three backs" -- Boone, Gordon and Williams -- and "get a nice flow and get a good understanding and philosophy of the system which we'll take from week to week to utilize all three of them." Even if such a rotation does come to fruition, Boone will no doubt be third in the pecking order. He'd likely need either Gordon or Williams to miss time in 2021 in order to be fantasy relevant.
MAY 14, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
In mix for No. 2 RB role Boone is expected to compete for the Broncos' No. 2 running back role behind Melvin Gordon, Aric DiLalla of the team's official site reports.
Impact The March 17 signing of Boone immediately boosted Denver's special teams units. With 2018 Pro Bowler Phillip Lindsay (hip) having since moved on to Houston via a one-year contract, Boone now finds himself in the conversation for a meaningful role within the Broncos backfield. The former Cincinnati Bearcat has been effective when granted opportunities over his three-year NFL career, racking up 5.3 yards per carry on 71 attempts as a member of the Vikings. For the time being, Boone's primary competitor for the No. 2 role is Royce Freeman, a 2018 third-round pick who last year accumulated 170 yards over 35 carries for the Broncos' 13th-ranked rush offense.

MARCH 16, 2021 • TWINCITIES.COM
Won't be tendered Boone isn't receiving a tender from the Vikings, making him an unrestricted free agent, Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Impact Tomasson notes that the Vikings are interested in retaining Boone, but the team deemed the price to tender him too high for a third-string running back and special teams contributor. Boone will likely test the market in hopes of finding a No. 2 running back job, but if none materializes, it's possible he opts to return to Minnesota and retain his previous role.

May not get RFA tender The Vikings want to keep Boone, but it isn't clear if they're willing to pay him $2.13 million, the minimum tender for a restricted free agent, Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pione...
Impact The team could try to sign him for less than the tender costs, but in the process might end up losing Boone to another franchise. While the 25-year-old is best known in fantasy circles for his disappointing performance in Week 16 of 2019, the Vikings seem to value his contributions on special teams. That's where Boone got 231 of his 250 snaps in 2020, logging just 19 plays and 13 touches on offense.
MARCH 4, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Gets 13 touches in 2020 Boone completed his season with 11 carries for 59 yards and one touchdown through 16 games. He also caught both of his targets for 10 yards.
Impact In a much quieter season for Boone compared to his last, the 25-year-old wasn't utilized in the offense much with Dalvin Cook and Alexander Mattison dominating the backfield. After competing with Ameer Abdullah (16 touches) for the No. 3 spot in Minnesota this year, both running backs have finished their contracts, and neither of their roles are guaranteed heading into 2021.

Finds end zone in loss Boone scored a four-yard touchdown run in Friday's 52-33 loss to the Saints.
Impact To the dismay of Dalvin Cook's fantasy managers, Mike Boone punched in a four-yard score in the second quarter. That rush marked Boone's fifth carry of the season, and he's played just 19 snaps on offense all year.

DECEMBER 25, 2020 • NFL.COM
Just two carries Sunday Boone had two carries for eight yards and one reception for four yards in Sunday's loss to Tampa Bay.
Impact Boone played just four snaps on offense, as he and Ameer Abdullah combined for just seven touches behind Dalvin Cook with Alexander Mattison (abdomen) out. No backup running back will have viable fantasy value in most formats as long as the Vikings continue to heavily utilize Cook.
DECEMBER 14, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
No touches since Week 6 Boone played two snaps on offense and didn't receive a touch in Sunday's 27-24 overtime win over the Jaguars.
Impact Boone didn't receive increased usage with Alexander Mattison (abdomen) out of the lineup. Instead, Dalvin Cook handled 87 percent of the offensive snaps and totaled 38 touches. Boone won't have fantasy value unless Cook gets hurt. Even if that happens, he'll compete with Ameer Abdullah for reps behind Mattison, making Boone a poor insurance policy for fantasy purposes.
DECEMBER 8, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
No carries for second straight game Boone posted one tackle on 18 special-teams snaps, but he logged zero offensive snaps during Sunday's 34-20 win against the Lions.
Impact The third-year back out of Cincinnati collected a combined four offensive touches between Weeks 5 and 6, with Dalvin Cook's inactive designation Oct. 18 against the Falcons due to a groin injury providing extra opportunity for the backup committee. With Cook returning to the fold after Minnesota's Week 7 bye, Boone hasn't fielded an offensive snap since. Boone remains the Vikings' No. 3 back behind Cook and Alexander Mattison heading into a Week 10 matchup against the Bears' 14th-ranked rush defense.
